Some examples are:

1. 5e dark-vision is 60 feet, BG3 gives 40 feet
2. 5e Superior Dark-vision is 120 feet, BG3 gives 80 feet.
3. 5e Light Crossbow is 80/320, BG3 gives 60 feet.
4. 5e Shortbow is 80/320, BG3 gives 60 feet
5. 5e Longbow is 150/600, BG3 gives ONLY 60 feet (WTH? One of the main benefits of using a Longbow over a shortbow is the range advantage)
6 5e Magic Missle is 120 feet, BG3 gives 60 feet

These are just a few issues affecting balance for any player that wants to play a ranged or caster class. The ranges are to give the players a means of having sufficient time to soften up an opponent, or stop them (CC) or bring them down before the heavily armored melee gets in your face. This is what 5e is balanced on, so essentially Larian is nerfing anyone that wants to go with a non melee play-style in favor of melee classes. Mind you it would not be an issue if they also nerfed melee to run half the distance, but they (Larian) haven't thus far. So in all honesty they need to fix the ranges to be on par with 5e rules, or reduce movement by the same percentage to make things equal out. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind playing a melee toon, in fact my focus will be to play a Monk when they introduce it. But this is currently so unbalanced at present it needs some kind of fix this late in development. Sadly I have been mentioning this issue since patch 3, and it still has not be rectified.

This isn't a BG3 thing, it's a video game thing. Video games always have much shorter ranges than tabletop because people really don't understand just how far a longbow can shoot. For example, in BG3, if you wanted to use the longbow at maximum normal range (not long range), you would be so far from the enemy you'd leave combat/not be able to see them.

The game isn't set up for proper tabletop ranges, and it's not something that's going to get fixed; it would require a massive overhaul not just of the combats, but also the maps.

In that case balance the movement distances to match the short ranges... like halve them, since that is essentially what most ranged effects are getting (except longbow which is still 15 feet short of half 150/2=75). So put movement that normally is 30, at 15, etc..

They could still make the ranges more dynamic rather than just making everything 60ft. / 18m.

Long range weapons like Long Bows and Magic Missile could be 80ft. / 24m without breaking anything.

Thrown weapons could be 40ft. / 12m. Throwing weapons go nicely around having to equip anyway.

+ getting Disadvantage beyond the standard range should be clearer.
