I installed that the other day. It also adds sneak attack as reactions, so no more losing sneak attack if you miss on your one try with the sneak attack button.

doesn't feel like a very good sign that the game isn't out yet and mods are already doing the job larian was supposed to.

Yeah very troubling ... almost as if this game was still in development.

Yup, now that the framework is there, we're going to see a lot of reaction-related mods. I wouldn't be surprised if someone was already working on adding spells like Shield and Absorb Elements into the game.

Yeah very troubling ... almost as if this game was still in development. relying on mods DURING active development to fix things that the game ought to have already is a huge red flag. we're talking about a mod that is adding in actual dnd functionality larian felt it best to cut for their homebrew. if the first mods being released are adding in the things that have been heavily contentiously argued about on the forums for years, it says a lot ...

They added reactions, which I am happy about, and which made this feature of the mod possible. There is a pretty good chance that they will add most of this into the base game, but if they don't, it works just fine in the mods, so I'm not going to fret one way or the other.

I hope they will add Shield and things in the official release now that we have Reactions. I will give Larian the benefit of the doubt. They are still sitting on Spiritual Weapon, too.

I would add: They .....<<<<grudgingly> added reactions after 2 YEARS of EA and feedback/complaints>>> Thats exactly how this situation feels. Reactions is just not a Larian thing to do. But we got it. I am now looking forward more to BG3 mods than the actual Larian updates and game. This is weird.

It just reminded me of the bowl of goat's milk that old Winthrop used to put outside his door every evening for the dust demons. He said the dust demons could never resist goat's milk, and that they would always drink themselves into a stupor and then be too tired to enter his room..

They most likely had a roadmap and reactions weren't fundamentally needed until now. Also considering how hot the discussions were around this subject, I wouldn't blame Larian for taking their time to consider how reactions would be best implemented.

We don't know how much time was required to implement them, and even if it wasn't that time consuming they still had to fit it into the list of stuff they had to do. Even if they added it on the bottom of the list of things they have to do, and just ended up working on it "recently" - I mean did they have to reorganise their production schedule just to show how good of an idea reactions are? They had an idea, it didn't work, they changed it into what people wanted. I am somewhat confused by current mixed implementation, but I just assume there is a reason for it, and hopefully is a transitory phase.

So you can not playtest their final reaction system, and they can not get feedback for it. I would have hoped that by the final patch, the mechanics would basically be fixed, but there still are a lot of open problems. Not changing it in two years does make it somewhat less likely that at least some of these will be fixed in the remaining year. And they will not receive any feedback as to if we actually like the "fixed" adaptation of the current mixed systems

Well, on the flip side...does everyone think here that reactions would of even been implemented if nobody said anything during EA? I highly doubt it. You don't just add such an importan/central gameplay system 2 years into your EA. Thats how I view it anyways. Colored hairs got a better and priority treatment to reactions.
Anyways its a good call from Larian; an even better one that started from the community. They are listening also to RPG/ D&D gamers, that is the most important take away from this.

The current reaction system is indeed the architecture I discussed with other players a few months ago. Indeed, because Paladin has never appeared, many people suspect that their game engine is extremely difficult to do this, so they discuss the aforementioned structure that is convenient for them to make. Indeed, you can doubt that they can't do it, but it is their promise that there will be paladins in the final game. Players just help players realize the so-called reaction early or officially. Maybe they have a side case, but within a few months they are indeed fast Respond to the players and make this system in EA for us.
