Feel free to post videos about games and discuss games. Lets keep to PC and biggest consoles games like Xbox and Playstation and not mobile phone games thank you unless they are supported by PC play also.
Lets keep also fairly not ancient games like 2010+ at least but not must be upcoming games.
I was really surprised Wolf included VtM:Bloodlines 2 ... one of three games im awaiting maybe even more eager than BG-3 release. Even more when he said that release in 2023 is, quotation "not impossible" ...
I was searching for any new information about the game, but as it seems Wolf were quoting aproximately month old article, where was nothing more than exactly this two words. Shame ...

It is true that not all those games in that video will be released even in year 2023 if not for other reason then something will be postponed. Well I hope VtM Bloodlines 2 will make you happy I wait for full review. The first developer lead got fired from Bloodlines 2 which makes me absolutely wait for full reviews before I make any decision to play it.
However I found it interesting because sure it had titles like DIablo IV that I did know about before but some hidden gems I am know aware of they are like maybe I will play them waiting for full release review. Oh I do not wait for Diablo IV or Bloodlines 2 more then BG3.
Yes, im aware of situation ... I was attached to that development proces harder than a tick ... following all social media they offered. :-/
Sadly i got into some argues here and there and got few bans. O:) So all i have left is Twitter, Facebook and WoD news i occasionaly watch, but rarely enjoy, since topics they are anouncing are even more rarely interesting for me ... and second half of the show looking at "picked artworks from fans" seems like wasted time ... i have nothing against artwords, and sometimes i gladly see some myself, but i really dont need *them* to pick wich are good for me. :-/
I totally get why you want to wait for proper review ... I allready accepted that im too weak to do that ... i know quite surely that i will preorder this game the second it reappears on Steam and will hate myself for that for a while (even more if the game will be garbage in the end), since i REALLY dont want to support Paradox for many personal reasons ... but i just want it too much to ignore it. :-/ Does that even make sense?
I still dont understand why cant we change Race for our hirelings. Lets us play Githyanki as racist as they trully are!
Those I play regularly apart from BG3. I play other games on occasion but those are the most replayable. There a lot of "ancient" games I play (even now) as well
I have a few comfort games I always return to, or their newest adaptations. Ironically none of the previous BG games are on that list, I played them so many times it's just not fun anymore I guess? Or I'm just picky now that I'm old(er).
Rimworld took me by surprise, I usually don't dwell in "make your own story" kind of games, but my Steam hour counter says otherwise I guess
I was very much looking forward to Bloodlines 2, but I'm no longer holding me breath. Perhaps when they start with the new marketing they'll grab my attention anew. Love the setting, Princes of Darkness are my go-to conversion mod for Crusaders Kings 3 (another favorite of mine).
Can't wait for Starfield as well, love me some buggy open world exploring.
But BG3 is the only game I am actually hyped about now, August can't come fast enough.
I have some comfort games too: Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines (my favorite game) Baldurs Gate 1&2 Dragon Age (all) KOTOR and SWTOR
I'm waiting for a few of the new games like Howarts - a Legacy, Bloodlines 2 (even though I'm sad, Mitsoda isn't headwriter anymore), Dragon Age 4 Dreadwolf
"We are all stories in the end. Just make it a good one."
I am dying for news about Silksong. It should release soonish but no solid release date. Other then that there isn’t anything I am really looking forward to in near future. Yeah, Avowed, Outer Worlds2 - but we have seen nothing about the titles, or even estimated release, so I don’t really look forward to them.
From recent-ish titles, I want to play through Kingdom Come. Looks interesting.
I'm working on re-learning monster hunter after a looong break, and trying to decide if i want to drop money on the sunbreak expansion for rise or not. Love
I'm also making my way slowly through FF Crystal Chronicles remastered, although I continue to remain annoyed that they didn't implement local multiplayer (which means all multiplayer is full online only and locked behind needing nintendo+)
I admit, I also was stuck to the development of the vtm bloodlines 2 until it went on pause, and I was so disappointed after everything, the loss of the online game that never was, and then the liquidation of whitewolf by ccp, I was very hopeful after they reformed, only for that to happen. I decided that it was better for my health to not pay attention.
Apart from that, I'm waiting for a couple of things to launch on PC, the Bookwalker, which seems really fun, and Submachine legacy, which is the remaster of an old flash game series that I loved a lot.
My comfort series is Civilization. I'm also awaiting Dragon Age. Aside from that, I also dabble in Humankind, Old World, War Thunder, and Star Wars Squadrons when the mood strikes me. I may buy Marvel's Midnight Suns at some point, also.
From the video some that look interesting to me are Banishers, Hogwarts Legacy, Star Wars Eclipse, and Greedfall 2. Maybe also the KOTOR remake, but it sounds like it is having a lot of issues.
As far as RPGs go, for sure not waiting for Starfield, nor for Dreadwolf. But Drop Bear Byte's Broken Roads. https://www.brokenroadsgame.com/

It is. For a change of pace, I was able to get through the entire main campaign having to fight in like a fistful of them. Which meant that at one point I had to abandon an NPC I was "supposed" to protect and flee, but hey.
Other than EA of BG3 I have been in alpha and beta testing for "Camelot Unchained" for several years (5 or 6 now), and thankfully it looks like they got some more funding so that may eventually get released in the next couple of years for those who like Siege style PVP (RVR for those that played DAOC in the old days), as they have been hiring new developers of late.
I am also looking forward to Hogwarts Legacy to try out when it is released in February and another option to look at is Ashes of Creation (currently in Alpha).
As for anything else, I have honestly been to busy with real life issues to be seriously involved with much more than I am currently. Things like purchasing a new dual purpose bike for summer riding, finishing up a degree in network cybersecurity, working full time, and taking care of an elderly mother all keep my "game time" very limited.

Yes, Broken Roads is on my Steam wishlist as well. I noticed it when I checked the status of Jagged Alliance 3. That's the only game I've been waiting longer for than DA: Dreadwolf and ofc BG 3.
Started Pillars of Eternity 2... I have played thorugh Pillars of Eternity 1 but not Pillars of Eternity 2.
However every time I try to play it I instead play Solasta Lost Valley. Currently I am level 3 in Solasta Valley. I play SOLO in Lost Valley since my brother do not want to play for 2 weeks now. I will play with my brother the main story Solasta campaign we are level 6 in that.
However Solasta Lost Valley I like it. I have there: Paladin Half-Elf man: STR 19, DEX: 15, CON: 18, INT: 11, WIS: 15, CHA: 20 level 3. Cleric Battle Hill Dwarf woman: STR 18, DEX: 15, CON: 19, INT: 10, WIS: 19, CHA: 10 level 3. Warlock The Fiend Half-Elf: woman STR: 10,DEX: 16, CON: 19, INT: 9, WIS: 13, CHA: 20 level 3. Wizard High Elf woman: STR:14, DEX: 19, CON: 18, INT: 18, WIS:16, CHA: 11 level 3.

Well and of course Cataclysm aka hardest difficulty with deadly AI an smart AI in both multiplayer with my brother Solasta maing campaing and solo game in Solasta Lost Valley. That said I do not use Ironman setting with permanent death and only one save in Solasta.
About Pillars of Eternity 2 though I have heard it is so hard (and I am not expert on POE 2 builds) so will not use hardest difficulty in Pillars of Eternity 2. On the other hand POE2 is not even DnD rules though it reminds of it more or less.

What? No. PoE2 gets very easy, unless you mod it. The very start is as hard as it gets, and two major encounters on the opening island can test one’s patience - but after that things get considerably easier. The game has a bit XP bloat problem, 1/3 through the game you will start feeling over levelled for the content.
DLCs raise back the difficulty, so if you play on POTD those can be a rude waking call if one cruises on without learning mechanics or finding synergies. There are also couple rather hard “megabosses”, but their only purpose is to provide ultimate combat test to your party, and there isn’t much point of fighting them otherwise.
Personally I want to do another run of PoE2 with Deadly Deadfire mod, which I hear spices things up, but I want to finish Wasteland3 first, and I just can’t connect with that game.

Perhaps however I do know this about PoE1. PoE1 end battle was stone hard. I wast told by many that it is so easy and then when I checked they had bought an expansion that raised their max level much higher then my level. It is differerent if you play it with level 11 or level 15 the end battle in PoE1. Well and if so easy why did my brother nevery play through it? PoE1 end battle was a nightmare I did load like 10 times before I won the end battle in PoE1.
Same thing here I will not buy some expansions to PoE2 that cost money and probably would give more exp and higher level and better items. Why did I buy then Solasta Lost Valley expansion? That is different campaign does not affect the main campaign in any way and does not make the main campaign more easy. In addition Solasta is much smaller world then PoE2 so I think they could even do another expansion after Lost Valley expansion.
I didn't play PoE1 at launch but I heard it was really hard. Even after all the patches and expansions PoE1 is for the most part a tougher game.
PoE2 over corrected on couple things, and difficulty was one of them. On release it was ridiculously easy, but it got better with patches. If you read reviews the game being too easy was a common critique.
Unlike PoE1, PoE2 didn't get an expansion but 3 DLCs - so some items, yes, but no extra power or levels. They are more like 3 mid-late game challenges/dungeons to test your party against (something that base game lacked). If anything thing by not picking up expansions you will actually miss the most demanding content in the game, aside from megaboses and beraths challenges (optional modifiers for later playthroughs). Some said that they made DLCs too hard, though personally I disagree but the DLCs do have some difficulty spikes.
It would be shame to skip DLCs - they are the best content both games have to offer, due to tighter focus.
As I said in another thread, I feel 2023 is going to be a good year for some great RPGs. I am looking forward to all the RPGs currently in the works from my major RPG studios: Bethesda's Starfield Obsidian's Avowed inXile's Project Cobalt (expected to be a steampunk game) Bioware's Dragon Age: Dreadwolf (may not release in 2023) CDPR's new Witcher series (definitely not in 2023)
And on the indie side: TA's next campaign DLC for Solasta Owlcat's next three DLCs for P:WotR Event Horizon's Dark Envoy Tiny Trinket Games' Zoria: Age of Shattering Early Morning Studio's Vendir: Plague of Lies
Edit: Oh, and also at least more details on the *other* three D&D video games currently being made by Hidden Path, Invoke, and OtherSide.

Well what can I say? I want early retirement. It is funny I was in work interview. They asked me what are you plans to do after 5 years? Truth would have been say... I do not work anymore early retirement.
When I do not work anymore then I have more time to play games. In addition while wealthy early retirement is stone hard challenge easier said then done even for me.
I did buy all DLC of Solasta though and I have already bought BG3. Truly there are so insanely much games that interest me so I think it is impossible I play through them all here from the video example:
From the OP youtube video: 8:30 Diablo 4 IV supports multiplayer with my brother. 12:58 Baldur's Gate 3 supports multiplayer with my brother. 11:24 Starfield maybe will check full review when released. Well maybe. Single player only. 21:03 The Awakener Arisen maybe will check full review when released. Single player only but very good graphics and like the style/art graphics. 24:46 Atlas Fallen maybe will check full review when released. Supports multiplayer with my brother. Well maybe. 25:56 Zoria Age of Shattering single player only. Maybe control 4-5 characters turn base combat fantasy. Well maybe. 27:57 Warhammer 40k Rogue Trader maybe single player only. Turn based combat Warhammer 40k World. Well maybe. 33:25 Avatar Frontier of Pandora based on the world with Avatar movies. Supports multiplayer with my brother. 44:45 Avowed by makers and same world as Pillars of Eternity games... Single player only,. Maybe and unknown if 2023 release. Well though graphics here is very different from PoE games perhaps like more like Witcher 3 controlling one person yourself. 59:48 Wyrdsong Unreal 5 excellent graphics. Multiplayer unknown and likely not 2023 release date... maybe. 56:37 Wonder Woman maybe if there will come full nudity mod. Wonder Woman the first movie liked it very much while second was quite average movie. Wonder woman was played by one woman that has represented a country in beauty contest for Worlds most beautiful woman. Single player only.
VtM:Bloodlines 2? Single play only. Only maybe I do not trust they did axed the best makers of the game and I do not know it is very good game waiting for full release reviews. Witcher next one? I am pretty sure it will not be released during year 2023 and I guess single play only. Maybe it is not that is not good game... it is more like see the long list how in hell would I have time to play all these games? Do you know those who make youtube videos about gaming? I bet most of them do not play through all games they make reviews about they would not have time for that seriously. Well and at least for now I am still working full time.
Well while I like Vampire movies and TV series not so eager for that game VtM:Bloodlines 2 will check full review before any decision regarding that.
I found more info and Avowed (BG3, Solasta and Diablo IV are not anymore only singleplayer games not comparing to multiplayer games) Avowed might become NUMBER 1 single player only game for me perhaps in future when full release:
Well and even newer video info and some rumors (not 100% verified):
Avowed: + Unreal 5 elite effects and graphics and engine to run big battles. + Creatures will be based on Pillars of Eternity lore, but will make also new editions. + Over 100 people are currently working on it currently (more exist in company, but they work with other games). + Next GEN AI systems. + Big focus on World reactivity (means destroyable environment etc. I guess). lightning (graphics and dark work fire gives realistic lightning). + There will be real time weather system (this is super great currently BG3 or Solasta has no such thing). + Character creation is supposed to be very advanced and detailed (and reminds of Dungeons and Dragons). + You will be able to list help of companions (NPC none player characters). + Dynamic presentation of dialogue. Well not sure what exactly this means. + "moths" support is planned I do not have a clue what that is perhaps they mean game controllers joystick and such makes sense it will come out on newest best XBOX as well as PC. + BLA BLA lore spoilers. + Obsidian wants to make you able to kill anyone in the game so if you wanna fuck the main story and do whatever you want I guess you can but... + Of story I can reveal so much there is an uprising tyranny... so you can "try" ignore it but eventually I guess you will be affected. + On the other hand you can become part of tyranny movement and support it I guess kind of anti hero. - The only big downside is that it is likely to be released year 2024-2025 and not during year 2023 according to newest video info above. Unknown release date. Neutral ok since it works only newest XBOX and PC system requirements for max graphics is not going to be low I would assume. I do not have a clue about this, but perhaps BG3 system requirements or more. Neutral instead of Pillars of Eternity or BG3 view this game might be first person view compare to Witcher 3... also to Skyrim has been compared but this world is not Skyrim it is based on Pillars of Eternity world. How this would work with NPC companions do not know perhaps AI can control them or you can control them I do not know.Well or could they have more then one interface view I do not know.
However, a number of key people that worked at Obsidian back then for the open world of NV aren't there anymore so it's not guaranteed. What I've seen of The Outer Worlds is in parts pretty shallow in comparison too (there's literally quests where all you do is following a marker like a hundred yards, finished -- and the game isn't even open world as such). Elden Ring has shown and proven that you don't need quests that sort of solve themselves like that, and it's one of my biggest bugbears in games.
Still curious about more info. And: Pentiment (made by a much smaller team) more recent made for an interesting narrative experience. I'd like to see a proper conclusion to the main PoE series too one day though. I guess if that ever comes to pass, it won't be quite as "experimental" as Deadfire though. I thought the naval theme, including the ship exploration, made for a nice change of pace compared to your average "BG clone". However, apparently, that did not sit well with everybody. And due to the (for them) disappointing commercial reception to Deadfire at launch, if PoE3 ever comes to pass, they will likely by default revert to a less "risky" setting again.
If I understand combat will take some Skyrim elements (but still be different more like DnD world). Well and saying it is like Skyrim no thanks. Unfortunately I did buy Skyrim and the only good thing with that game for me was some community made full nudity mod that made all women n...
They certainly have more then one game and one game could be SCIFI but Avowed is going to fantasy not SCIFI. It could perhaps have early versions of very early versions of firearms (it is not going to be FPS game,,,,very long load time for firearms would guess), but I would assume they are rare and there exist DnD like magic.
Skyrim is a complete sandbox game. In a way I think you could go on mayhem rampage and ignore main quests in Avowed but I would assume very different gameplay you will have much clearer what to do and more would I say campaign like (compare to BG3).
I do not like full open world games like Skyrim. Witcher 3 is not exactly like Skyrim but I expect Avowed to be much less sandbox if you choose to foilow the story though of course you can do do sidequests and explore world at same time. Finally it is Pillars of Eternity lore and has nothing to do with Skyrim lore.
If full review would describe Avowed as complete sandbox game and unsure what to do etc no clear quests simply explore and venture forth. then I will save my money and never buy that game enough said. Oh and Elders Scrolls 6 whenver that game is going to come out do not care and will never buy it enough said. I did buy Skyrim when I got it for 10 euro (a discount offer) ,but even that was to much for that game.
Now I am not saying Skyrim combat moves are bad... I am talking about the complete Sandbox type of game.
If I understand combat will take some Skyrim elements (but still be different more like DnD world). Well and saying it is like Sjyrim no thanks. Unfortunately I did buy Skyrim and the only good thing with that game for me was some community made full nudity mod that made all women n...
If you liked New Vegas, you probably should be fine in terms of "sandboxing". The inspiration for doing Avowed was Skyrim though. And as it came from Obsidian upper management, the reason is naturally: $$$.
I played through Skyrim once, but it's as wide as an ocean and as deep as a puddle. I completely lucked out too. There's no restriction on character progression anyway (the same character can max out everything at once), but I focused exclusively on ranged weapons (bows) and sneaking. This made combat even pretty tactical at points (still remember making a huge ass spider in a dungeon vulnerable to fire via some special bows, shooting it, luring it into a firetrap nearby -- bliss). Both magic as well as melee aren't even close. But at least the world is pretty, GOAT.
Additionally, the puzzles they put into the game are little kids' stuff really (why bother then?) -- the dungeons are built in a way that all ways lead to exit , and generally, it's a game that plays itself via tons of (non-optional) markers, one of my biggest pet peeves with Witcher also (atop of the barely existent character progression systems and you watching a completely passive Netflix expeirence like 70% of the playing time). The few remaing AAA companies on their never ending quest to ever expand audiences (naturally) increasingly develop RPGs for people who previously didn't actually much like RPGs and got nowhere near even games such as Kotor or Morrowind. Which is why Witcher plays very similar to every open world action blockbuster out there, why there's such a huge audience overlap -- and why Fallout more recent had been turned into a shooter with every character stat pretty much only influencing combat anymore and a dialogue system that didn't tasked you with the burden of reading in between shooting).
That's fine and there's nothing at all wrong with that. Westwood tried the same thing with their Lands Of Lore series back then already (but failed due to a multitude of reasons). But: At least unlike 10+ years ago, there's alternatives again after like 70% of the industry had collapsed around the 2000s. And just like "New Vegas" was a glimmer of hope in 2010ish, every once in a while there's still a "Kingdom Come Deliverance" too in the bigger budget space. Maybe Avowed will be one such too.

Well I have not played any Fallout: New Vegas games not even first or any of them. I have said that Fallout: New Vegas or that generally FPS games are bad. Usually not my taste, but if talking about simple idea for shooter games it think Halo games nailed it for XBOX and some of them also for PC. Well and then I could like some old retro shooter perhaps but generally not my main taste though I like to be sometimes Ranger like shoot in MMO:s nothing wrong with that.
Rarely I do play shooters, but I can like PvP in MMO: and even you shoot with bow.
I did play Elder Scrolls 4 Oblivion and did not like it. I did play Elder Scrolls 5 Skyrim and did not like it, but got it for 10 euro discount price for PC. I will never buy Elders Scrolls 6 enough I do not believe they are good games for me. I did like more or less Witcher 2 and 3 and that they also have nude women graphics though I would not say Witcher games are my best games, but good enough.(I have never played Witcher 1).
Avowed will not be modern shooter like Fallout Las Vegas games with modern shoot weapons. Firearms and even perhaps cannons. but I would expect it to be like early 1600 or earlier time line in technology and it will have DnD like Magic and classes and characters.
There is example New World MMO that might give an indication of what kind of game is Avowed or even earlier then that technology. I have nothing against if people play modern FPS games with modern weapons however Avowed will not feel like a modern FPS game so please give that idea a rest though you could shoot with bow, crossbow and perhaps a rifle/pistol with very long loading time. Well and then like DnD like magic perhaps I cast Hold Person or Charm person or sleep on your Ranger that is going to shoot and he/she will freeze and tadaa there goes your idea of shooter FPS only games in Avowed that is not going to happen. Well though I doubt Avowed will have any kind of PvP or multiplayer, but an AI controlled enemy could do cast spells.
Actually there is an upcoming MMO with Unreal 5 engine and Dungeons Dragons license that has high budget and is made in USA to my understanding. Reason I do not want to talk about it because it is so far in future example 2025-2027 release date unknown.
Well and oh yes I have been MMO player as well and like PvP in MMOS! Ashes of Creation MMO, but that might be to much PvP for my taste (not only voluntary PvP full PvP world !) and huge battles like 500 vs 500 players with Unreal 5 graphics that is groundbreaking record! Unfortunately that means Ashes of Creation MMO will also have skyhigh system requirements at least for biggest PvP battles. Well though I like the developers of Ashes of Creation MMO and they have me respect. Perhaps I would try it, but not now in Alpha because it is like so expensive it cost like 500 euro to get access to Alpha.
The release date delay for Avowed is unfortunate but well worth it. Reportedly it is because Obsidian completely rebooted the game by abandoning co-op play and making the game entirely single-player.

Yes takes time because new graphics also Unreal 5 game.
It is only Ashes of Creation despite being MMO that have come really far (that I know for sure) of making the game in Unreal 5 engine. I am NOT sure Ashes of Creation MMO will be released in 2023. That said I am sure like 99,99% sure that Alpha 2 will come out in 2023 and that is great since ALPHA 2 should have all systems in (though some bug fixes and polishing in Beta).
The developers that I like:
Now Ashes of Creation MMO is not for those players do not like PvP.
Now perhaps I will try New World MMO.. please do not suggest Final Fantasy XIV to me tried it did not like it enough said. Well and certainly not interested generally in Asian MMOS. I have played example WOW MMO and Neverwinter MMO and liked them, but eventually got bored on them.
Now of what I disagree with that list? I would Rank Neverwinter MMO as B tier. It is pay to win, but you can for free access content and I did earn the fastest mount with lots of time playing and saving ingame money as totally free player.
Well and Elder Scrolls Online. They still have the fairly outdated ugly characters not super graphics in my book so since do not like Elder Scrolls game rate it B tier. Well and Elder Scrolls 4 and 5 lore and story have never ever succeed to capture me or their world.
Guild Wars 2 would be B tier for me it does not even have Direct X 11 graphics and no endgame to talk about worth mentioning that I find interesting. Lost Ark MMO? B tier to me. He rates Final Fantasy XIV as B tier? Well can agree with that but not interested to play it again.
Ashes of Creation MMO is not in that list not yet released. Well and the upcoming Dungeons Dragons MMO with Unreal 5 engine is so far in future so I am sure Ashes of Creation MMO will be released clearly long time before that even if full release would be towards end of 2024 for Ashes of Creation MMO.
I have played WOW MMO back in the days when it felt more hardcore slow levelup so probably agree with WOW classic S tier and WOW MMO A tier, but got so bored on WOW MMO so more interested perhaps to try New World MMO.
I was wrong. Ashes of Creation MMO is not going to be first MMO with Unreal 5 graphics full release. Found out New World MMO does not have classes so not so interested to try it.
What game then? Throne of Liberty MMO aka Lineage 3 MMO. What are the differences between Throne of Liberty and Ashes of Creation MMO in a nutshell?
Ashes of Creation MMO: + Record breaking PvP 500 vs 500 players MMO. + Lots of PvP modes focus is heavily on PvP. + Raids and good PvE content. + Mounts many types. + Weather systems and effect that are super good. + Housing. + Crafting. + Unreal 5 engine graphics and performance. + Personally I like the developers. They are in USA ( I do not care if USA or Europe but Western system money) + not pay to win. + Huge world. + Many classes and races. Neutral: FUll PvP world. Neutral: Action combat with some tab targeting perhaps. I am not expert on this have not bought Alpha access for 500 euro and played myself on top of that they have made changes. However when Alpah 2 is released in year 2023 then I am sure we can get more info. Neutral: I believe personally (I am no expert and have no inside information) that full release is 2024 that said some youtuber said he guess that this Ashes of Creation MMO is released in year 2025 or 2026. - Well the biggest PvP fights with 500 vs 500 players will have very high system requirements. - Monthly subfee if you are not willing to pay this is not for you. - Early Access cost 500 euro not 60 euro like BG3. That said at full release the game cost more reasonable. - not voluntary PvP Conclusion if you do not like PvP and endgame content like Raids and Dungeons then I think Ashes of Creation MMO is not for you but if you like PvP and have good enough hardware in computer this MMO can be a paradise for you.
I am not expert on many details like housing or crafting exist? in Throne of Liberty aka Lineage 3 so will not mention them. Throne of Liberty aka Lineage 3 MMO. + Unreal 5 graphics and it absolutely looks good. + Most likely full release in year 2023. The first MMO with Unreal 5 graphics. + They have pretty big fights also though not record breaking huge fights as Ashes of Creation MMO. + Seamless not instanced. + Voluntary PvP but how it works it is let in before hand when a specific zone is allowed PvP if you remain and stay in the area where PvP begins you can be killed then it set that you have allowed PvP. Personally I think this sounds ok. + Dungeons have many floors there is no loading screen between them and you can buff players on different floor or give damage to another floor it is not linear. + You can like a Druid change to some animals for movement this instead of mounts. + Many classes and races. + Hmm I believe I could see some sexy females in this game. + Immersion World like WOW no loading screens. + I would say Lineage 2 was a success back in the days these are the same developer. I do admit that I have never played any Lineage game though I have played example Asian Genshin Impact MMO and Final Fantasy XIV MMO. Neutral: I would guess it has houses and crafting. Neutral: Dungeons/Raids are not instanced if I understood correctly. Neutral: Made in South Korea. - No mounts. - Pay to win. - No classes I dislike this! - Aggressively Pay to win elements. In addition you buy the game buying is not a problem to buy but pay to win can be annoying. On the other hand I played as free player Neverwinter MMO that also have buy to win elements however how exactly Throne of Liberty MMO will be remains to be seen.
The way these MMO handle huge fights is different. Throne of Liberty aka Lineage 3 automatically reduces graphics in huge fights so it is not maximum graphics in huge fights in that game.
Ashes of Creation MMO tries to do the impossible make it look excellent graphics despite record breaking 500 vs 500 players PvP and in that mix can even PvE elements affect the battle if I understood there is a big Dragon in that area. That said for now I have not seen any battle in Alpha 1 that has had 500 vs 500 players, but pretty huge fights (and that Dragon in that area) they are optimizing the code. Remains to be seen how they can fix this 500 vs 500 players.
Sexy females in Lineage 3 MMO? I believe this woman can be a model from Lineage 2 MMO. Please do not look in spoiler (do not click for Goblins) if you do not want to see such content:
Well and the above content was around when Lineage 2 MMO was hot popular. Lineage 2 was released 2003 in South Korea and I guess arrived to USA and Europe slightly later. That content above is from year 2007.
If you liked New Vegas, you probably should be fine in terms of "sandboxing". The inspiration for doing Avowed was Skyrim though. And as it came from Obsidian upper management, the reason is naturally: $$$.
Feargus’ mention of Eora Skyrim comes from before Deadfire’s release. We really have no idea into what the project evolved into, or what Feargus meant when using “Skyrim” in the pitch. Yes, he could have literally meant Skyrim but with Eora flavour. But it might have been as simple as “First Person RPG”.
The closest we got to some reliable information is Windows Central preview and that is an old preview of an old vertical slice, and according to Jason Schrier it went through some reboots and change of directors.
Well and what the fuck is this trend all new MMO must have action combat and then eve worse trend that no classes?! New World MMO does not have classes. Lineage 3 despite Lineage 2 did have classes will have no classes! Boring! Instead you pick up weapon? I do not care do not want some classless system!
Thank god Ashes of Creation MMO do have classes and that the far future in year 2025-2027 perhaps upcoming DnD game will have classes.
Avowed will not be modern shooter like Fallout Las Vegas
New Vegas took over Fallout 3's engine (NV is a spin-off created by Obsidian). Naturally, it has the same core gameplay loop in terms of combat in particular. Playing it in real-time, it is indeed shooter-ish (so was System Shock 2 back in the day already). You can of course turn on VATS, which is something else.
Still, watch this and say again this would be simply a shooter. This is way more nuanced and in-depth than pretty much anything in the AAA space since forever.
Unfortunately, it's also expensive to develop (not every single quest in NV is quite like that) and takes a lot of testing so... as said, New Vegas was my glimmer of hope back then.

Ok however Avowed will not be modern shooter like Fallout Las Vegas. Please stop saying that Avowed will be SCIFI or modern FPS thank you.
Of course there are other games that are FPS games.
Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines 2 may be cancelled (for now) but the reason anybody cares about that one is that "Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines 1" was a magnificent game. It was also an absolute buggy mess on release, but with community patches its one of the best RPG available, even though it is 20 years old.
I'm not a big fan of vampires in general, but I still think that Bloodlines 1 is a top tier RPG, and it is definitely worth playing, even though the graphics are dated.
It also feels more like a modern game than Baldur's Gate 1 and 2, so if you are worried that the 20 year time gap will be a problem, you probably should give it a try anyway. The game manages to be much greater than the sum of its parts (common for the Troika games in general) and it provides an amazing sense of immersion.
Baldur's Gate 3 is the game I play the most. But when I get burnt from it, I'll play one of these other games:
Old World Distant Worlds 2 Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous Interstellar Space Genesis Galactic Civilization 4 (currently playing) Solasta Civilization 6

I agree have not played Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines 1 but there are so many fans I know it was very good game even excellent depending on taste. Which is odd considering I have seen Tv series like True Blood, The Vampire Diaries, The Strain that are all more or less about Vampires. Well and movies like Fright Night I like them both the old one from 80ies and the more modern version and I have seen all Underworld movies. Of course many other good movies and Tv series about Vampires exist, but I wanted to mention at least something.
My biggest fear is that they are going to do with Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines 2 what they did with Lord of the Rings TV series completely ruining it then it would not even be a 7/10 game. Perhaps I am being paranoid? That said a lead person who was behind Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines 1 was fired is a red flag indeed since it is said he was like a spirit of what the first game would be. At least on Tv series and movies front there is reason to be paranoid now rumors exist they are going to ruin Witcher TV series.
As I see The Witcher 4 PC game production CD Project is in Poland and I am pretty sure it will not be ruined they have completely different culture in Poland (Well though Poland is good NATO ally so do not worry USA). I also expect same amount of nudity roughly in The Witcher 4 as in The Witcher 3.
I hope they do not cancel the game Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines 2 or even worse completely ruin it like they did the Tv series LOTR.
Shame ...
Cancelled...cough...
Well or ruined actually n persons was fired. Cancelled or ruined.
EDIT. All were not fired. They had fixed terms contracts. New contract was not agreed upon at least to some source saying so whatever.
Cancelled is realistic theory though personally I believe it will at least release but have no clue when. Why realistic? They considered cancellation at one point.
I hope VtM:Bloodlines 2 will be very good game and released, but I have my doubts.

I don't keep Bloodlines in such high regard as some, though I do think it is a seminal RPGs that needs to be played, if one has interesting in RPGs. The vampire theme isn't to my taste, combat and overall gameplay feel is horrible, but it is probably the only RPG I can think of that handles varied races well. Some vampire clans offer a very unique playstyle, fulfilling their roleplaying concept, which is a unique achievement considering most RPGs (including BG3) tend to sand off the interesting bits for the simplicity sake.
I think it is very warranted to be sceptical about the sequel - it will be tricky to nail it for the second time. Bloodlines greatness is content driven, rather then mechanical, so devs need to come up with another batch of great content, rather then just adapting what B:M did. B:M was also build on Troika's unreasonable ambitition, and it is something that perhaps shouldn't be directly replicated. B:M is after all a cult classic - meaning I didn't sell well, and without hard work of the community it still wouldn't as playable as it is now. Troika's games came at a cost, and that cost was studio shutting down. I don't think that's a path that anyone wants to emulate.
Personally, what we have seen of M:B2 looked awful to me, so the reboot under different studio is only a positive thing in my eyes. Hopefully, Paradox CEO's are not lying to appease shareholders, and we will hear something about the game soon. It is odd they didn't even reveal who is working on the game now, but I also understand if they want to wait until they can show off more before revealing anything.
Modded Skyrim VR is really the best RPG experience you can get in gaming right now, IMO. Nothing else compares. Exceptions obviously for when you really don't want to be in VR, and just want to chill and lay back with snacks and play a slower paced cRPG.

Question of taste. I really tried and bought Oblivion (Elder Scrolls IV) and Skyrim (Elder Scrolls V the later one when got 10 euro discount price). Even with mod that made all women nude it was not good enough.
I have never got into liking graphics. Well and then top of that open world sandbox is not for me at least not Elder Scrolls. It is nice Skyrim supports VR and such an old game as Skyrim has to begin with low system requirements though VR might increase system requirements.
It is apples vs oranges subjective taste. I understand that for you it is the best game, but for me it is not even good game enough said.
This is probably not a great solution, but I have always modded my elder scrolls games to within an inch of their lives, and Skyrim was no different. I love some of the quests that people have made, ones that expand the main quest choices, and ones that retexture.
That said, Skyrim is definitely not a perfect game, the story is surprisingly thin on the ground, and for such an open world game you really don't have that many options for how to play through the major quest lines, so if sandbox style rpgs aren't your thing then I wouldn't bother.
Luckily they dont really need to. Its the same as with Baldur's Gate III. ... yes, there will ALLWAYS (and i mean it litteraly) be someone claiming that this game is not worthy sucessor of that legacy.
The question is: Since its impossible ... was it even a goal? Or would studio and producers be perfectly fine with good game, that will have good sales, and will entertain lots of fans of original game(s)?
I think its certainly possible ... when i look at other series ...
I still dont understand why cant we change Race for our hirelings. Lets us play Githyanki as racist as they trully are!

I don't want a perfect game, the first bloodlines was a mess, but it had a solid story with moderately interesting characters, and the ability to make character-driven choices for gameplay that gave me different options for completing certain quests, and a small selection of ending options that made me feel like I had actually made some choices (even though there was really only 2 choices that mattered).

But if you decide it is impossible to do a sequel and won’t even attempt it, why are you using the IP beyond exploiting the fan base and the IP? The only reason Bloodlines2 has my attention is because Bloodlines1. As such I expect for the game to live up to the expectation at least to some extend (like for example modern Deus Exs aren’t immersive sims I wish they were, but still clearly riff on DE1).
If one isn’t part of the exploitation one doesn’t care (I for one didn’t mind for Arcane having to do Prey reboot in name only, as I had no idea Prey1 existed, but at the same time game could have been called anything else), but I also don’t think it is right to let it slide. I think it would be better for everyone, if publishers stopped abusing IPs. But they won’t, it gives them too much power.
[quote=Wormerine Its the same as with Baldur's Gate III. ... yes, there will ALLWAYS (and i mean it litteraly) be someone claiming that this game is not worthy sucessor of that legacy.
Well I think I can answer this I am not the oldest one forums I know there are 50+ people and perhaps much older then that on forums. That said I have played pen and paper Dungeon Dragons even PRE 18 year age and I have played Dungeons Dragon a really long time before Dungeons Dragons 5 was released. Well not playing all the time many years breaks and sometimes playing through computer games.
I even joined a very long time ago a RETRO group of 2ND edition aka Advanced Dungeons Dragons and played a short campaign pen and paper. I have played Dnd 3.0 and Dnd 3.5. I have not played DND 4 or Pathfinder except in computer games. I have played DnD 5.0 in pen and paper or remotely in COVID 19 time and computer games. Well and I have played Baldurs Gate 1 and 2 both of them in LAN multiplayer play a long time ago with my brother.
First of hmm story? Eh I really think that can not be judged until full release. BG3 has a promising start.
I think what many players that are old school miss is traditional graphics and to control characters like in Solasta, Pathfinder games, Pillars of Eternity those styles of game. It is not only that some players find the controlling the game BG3 not the best system out there (I belong to them) while ok for me I would not say it is BG3 strongest side, but it works and has multiplayer cooperative support to maximum 4 players or you can play it solo which is very good.
In early versions of ALPHA BG3 was very far from real DnD 5 rules. That said BG3 has gradually become more close to DnD 5 today so even if currently some subclasses and Cleric domains, spells and feats from Players Handbook are missing it does generally feel enough DnD 5 for me and how close it is to real DND 5 rules and what is available in content we will not know before full release of the game.
What BG3 shine in and beats those other games is in graphics, cinematic visions... and sound is very good and music.
Now DND 5.0 system for BG3? DND 5.0 is enough good I think. There are of course some hardcore fan of old games that would like 2ND Advanced Dungeons Dragons rules like in BG1 and BG2. I understand that wish some might have, but honestly I think DND 5.0 is good enough DND system.
By the wast majority though including me Baldurs Gate 3 will be a very good game and perhaps even excellent.
For those who like more of traditional party controlling Dungeons Dragons that are at least fairly modern games that remind of BG1 and BG2 I suggest try Pathfinder games, Solasta and Pillars of Eternity. Pillars of Eternity 1 an 2 is not Dungeons Dragons, but close enough in my book so it reminds of BG1 and BG2. Pathfinder system has its roots and developed from DND 3.5 so personally I classify Pathfinder as a branch of Dungeons Dragons.
Of all those games only BG3 is Forgotten Realms Dungeons World and BG1 and BG2 were Forgotten Realms World. Solasta is DND 5.0 , but it is limited license and the world is not Forgotten Realms in Solasta.
Well and you can not judge BG3 before full release of the game which is likely in August 2023 that is the current release date plan. I also like modern games that do not remind of BG1 an BG2, but this post is long enough.
Luckily they dont really need to. Its the same as with Baldur's Gate III. ... yes, there will ALLWAYS (and i mean it litteraly) be someone claiming that this game is not worthy sucessor of that legacy.
The question is: Since its impossible ... was it even a goal?
But if you decide it is impossible to do a sequel and won’t even attempt it, why are you using the IP
I didnt mean its impossible to do "a sequel" ... That IS certainly possible as it was countless times prooved in game industry.
What i said its imposisble to do "worthy sucessor of the legacy" for EVERYONE. What i meaned (even tho maybe i didnt say it properly) is that you can never create the same game second time ... you still can create great game from same setting tho, just as good as the first one, hells ... it may in some ways be even better than original one, but it will be different, and that is what some people will be upset about ... THAT is inevidable.
Its like evolution ... It have to try new things, otherwise it stagnate and disappear ... sometimes it takes wrong turn, and sooner or later it extinct anyway ... sometimes it takes right turn, and it will direct course for next few generations ...
To me ... (feel free to replace "Bloodlines 2" with "Baldur's Gate III" ... and "Bloodlines" with "Baldur's Gate I & II.") People who are expecting Bloodlines 2 to be just like Bloodlines with different story, are destined to be disapointed ... bcs there will allways be *something* (and it will differ for each player) that will feel different than Bloodlines and that *something* will change things for them ... Its like ... i dunno ... > play Warcraft III., play World of Warcraft, or watching Warcraft movie ... > play Bloodlines, play Bloodhunt, and play Shadows of New York ... > play Metal Gear Solid, play MGR: Revengeance, and play MGS:V Phantom Pain ... > play Fallout, play Fallout: New Vegas, and play Fallout 76 ... Every single time entirely different experience, all that ties them together is that each series come from same universe. Some of those games aged like vine ... and their sequels were really great games, even tho they didnt provide "the same experience" ... since *THAT* is impossible to achieve. Other of those games aged like milk ... and that is okey, evolution have to sometimes take wrong turn, in order to find out it was wrong turn.
From all games i ever played ... Sequel that felt closest to its Predecessor ... was SW:KotOR II. It was created by same team, that started working on it litteraly just as they finished first game ... and still, the combat felt different, there was much more options, crafting and upgrading system for gear was updated, influence over your companions was added, it looked much better (duh) ... So many differences. Most of them was good ... so i didnt mind them at all, but they were without question there ... funily enough, im kinda unable to enjoy KotOR as much since i played II., bcs i miss all those improvements.
//Edit: (i didnt mean to post it yet. )

Simmilar here ... Bloodlines was my first step into World of Darkness ... as i bet it was for many other people.
But quite honestly the more i played it (i have most likely 100+ playthroughs done, all clans, both genders, multiple unofficial dlcs) and more importantly the more i learned about the world ... the more i see how much wasted potential was there.
So i dont really want Bloodlines 2 to be another Bloodlines ... I hope there for good evolution, as it was between Witcher and Witcher III. (i didnt play killer of kings) :3

That is the trick isnt it? "to some extend" ... Problem is that everyone will have that extended differently.

And i dont think they do ... i mean abusing them ... Even tho some probably do ... but i really want to believe that most of them dont.
They simply keep building on something that as previously builded ... sometimes its just as good, even tho different ... sometimes its worse ... and sometimes its even better ... but its never, ever, the same.

hmmm, you are confusing concepts here. Sequel isn't the same as a spin-off. I will refer to titles I know: World of Warcraft is a spin-off of Warcraft series, which were RTSs MGR: Revengeance is a spin-off of MGS games (otherwise I only played MGSV so can't speak for it's relation to previous titles, though I hear fans were disappointment, though I was under impression that it was more due to it being unfinished. That was something that was clear enough to myself, in spite of never playing a MGS game before) Fallout 76 is a spin-off from Fallout series, and Fallout: New Vegas is stand-alone campaign build using Fallout3 engine.
Similarly, Witcher games build on one another, but Thronebreaker is a spin-off not a numbered entry.
As such, yes, I wish Baldur's Gate3 would position itself as a spin-off rather then numbered entry, as I think it would better communicate what the game is. Similarly, as Avowed is a new title in Eora world, but doesn't position itself as Pillars of Eternity sequel. Speaking of Pillars, there was a post made by its creator Josh Sawyer, in which he mentioned that if they were to create Pillars of Eternity3 they would likely need to rethink a lot of those elements - at which point what is the point of calling it Pillars of Eternity3? All you do is create expectation from the people who liked the originals, and set them up for disappointment. Avowed, on the other hand carries no expectations. It could be really anything, and as long as it is good I will be satisfied. And if it expands the world of Eora in a satisfaying way to me as a fan of Pillars, I will be even happier.
So yeah, if you say you create Bloodlines2 you send a very clear message. There are other World of Darkness games and Masqarade titles, but only Bloodlines2 attaches itself to the legacy of the original. It is a concious choice, which carries expectations.

Correction - it was developed by a completely different teams. SW:KOTOR was created by Bioware, while SW:KOTOR2 was a rushed sequel for which they hired Obsidian. (similar situation, as Bethesda Fallout3, and Fallout: New Vegas also made by Obsidian. Or Neverwinter Nights (Bioware) and Neverwinter Nights2 (Obsidian)).
A sequel or continuation is a narrative, documentary or other literary, filmic, theatrical or musical work that continues the story (or expands it with other elements) of a previously published work.
A spin-off is a radio, television, computer or literary work that has been derived from an already existing work (or several works) and which is particularly focused on a certain aspect of the original work (e.g. a certain theme, character, event, etc.).
(both generated via google translator)
So ... maybe my examples was not the best ...
But i see there no contradiction, its nowhere mentioned that sequel need to follow the same genre as original work ... only that as long as it follows or expand same story, its sequel ... if it only uses universum and tell its own story, its spin-off ... O_o

That definition applies more to narrative mediums, while games rely on mechanics. Arguably the latter is more important in gaming - there are well established IPs with little or no narrative continuation, though that of course is IP dependant. That the games you mentioned don’t position themselves as sequels (different titles, not numbered entries) should be a dead giveaway.

I guess for the same reason that Baldur's Gate 2 Shadow's of Amn was called Baldur's Gate 2? Couldn't they have just called it Shadow's of Amn, or the Bhaalspawn Legacy/Saga? I mean, the series, until then, had become part of that saga, with some other media, novels and some TT, I believe, adding to it. The only thing Baldur's Gate about 2 was that it had some of the same characters in it, with the same protagonist, if you imported one from the first game, which wasn't required. Other than that, it was just brand recognition, right? I mean, fast forward a bit, and suddenly it's the "Infinity Engine games", and includes IWD 1 and 2 as well. Given that we're pretty sure we're actually going to Baldur's Gate this time around, it already has as much in common with BG 1 as BG 2 did.

Can you explain what you mean by this? I'm not exactly sure I 100% understand your reasoning/point.
BG2 continued the overarching story of BG1, that of the Bhaalspawn, using mainly the same mechanics/characters/region, making it a sequel in the truest sense. No? It certainly used brand recognition, but the use of "2" in the title was justified..?

Exactly. It is silly in BG case, but that’s devs inexperience in naming games. A smarted developer would use a more universal title. But other than poor naming of the series the tile is also wholly accurate:
Baldur’s Gate2 (sequel to The game Baldur’s Gate): Shadows of Amn (location of the new adventure). With BG2 expanding the systems and structure and on top of that directly continuing the story of the originals, including plot and the character (whenever you import or reimagine Bhaalspawn is irrelevant, it is still the same character), it is as sequelly as it gets.
As GiantBombs link point out, story content is really secondary in games. Definitely less so in RPGs, but in general you can have a direct sequel, which has no story connection to the original. It is how the story plays, how it is structure, what gameplay pillars it leans on to, what it’s feel, and appeal are, is what is the most important.
It’s not my interpretation. As Rag nicely pointed out, Warcraft1-3 were sequels, but World of Warcraft, and Hearthstone received their own IP. Similarly there was Baldur’s Gate1&2 but there were spin-off Dark Alliance games. There are original God of War games and the reboots - because they are complete reboots, in spite of continuing the characters story. FiraXCOMs openly positioned themselves as reimagining, as Solomon well knows how different their fundamental designs are.
Naming conventions are well established in gaming, so while it’s been clear for someone like me (by that I mean I played Larian games) what BG3 will likely be, it is a title that positions itself as something else than it is. Even if its plot ties to original saga, and they bring back some of the characters it is a very very different game in every aspect - so a reboot, akin to modern God of War.
Other infinity engine games were a spin-offs though. While using the same engine and therefore mechanics, their focus and structure are rather different - with Icewind Dales focusing on custom parties and pure dungeon crawling, and Planescape focusing on the narrative side.
Edit. Sorry, what we were talking about? Bloodline sequel looked crap, and it is getting a reboot under new studio. Hopefully that will come out better.

Sure, but by comparison, it's the same argument as "But this game isn't Baldur's Gate". At this point, there is a lot more we don't know about what's coming in the story than what we do know. What we do know is that we're going to have some return characters, and a return to Baldur's Gate. But as we can see, this is more about

" than anything else. "But it's a Larian game", while true, doesn't tell the whole story. It is still the property of WotC/Hasbro, and if they weren't on board with the basic plot, they wouldn't have let Larian use the IP. It's a safe bet that WotC/Hasbro has more information about this game than we do, so there's bound to be a reason they allowed Larian to use the IP.**
In particular, when I think about Minsc, I don't think "Oh, the Forgotten Realms", I think "Oh, Baldur's Gate". The same for Jaheira. While Minsc does appear in the Neverwinter MMO, his origin is, and always will be, Baldur's Gate. We were never going to get the same mechanics, other than dice rolls, because BG 1 and 2 were 2nd edition, and this is going for 5e. It's also not going to be in the Infinity Engine. So, we have a return to the setting, both Forgotten Realms and Baldur's Gate, and returning characters from BG 1. BG 2 had returning characters, and the storyline. It kept the Forgotten Realms, but lost Baldur's Gate. So yes, it's a direct sequel. This does not, however, preclude another game in the same setting from using the title, especially with the parallels to the first game, setting x2 and returning characters. Bonus points if there are returning characters from BG 2 as well?
You see, I came away from the post I originally quoted thinking "hey, another "but it's really DOS 3" post". Which is more or less confirmed by the snippet I quoted above. What else do you suppose is meant by that? So, I pointed out some differences and similarities between the three titles. It's not like Larian created another new IP and slapped the Baldur's Gate title on it, they can't do that. Everything they're doing goes through an approval process, and if you're thinking this isn't the case, read the new OGL they're trying to push out. Something that stood out to me was them insisting that you had to submit your work for approval, even on mostly homebrew stuff that's using the current OGL... If they're going for that much control over IPs that they don't own, how much control do you suppose they're exerting over IPs they do own?
**Of note here, IP refers to Baldur's Gate, et al. You can make a DnD game that isn't Baldur's Gate, but can't make a Baldur's Gate game that isn't DnD, although I have to wonder, given Dark Alliance...
@robertthebard We really got off topic so I will put reply in spoiler tag
That WOTC signed on it, doesn't change a thing. And yes, the plot might have an indepth connection to the originals that is relvealed later on, but I still think it is irrelevant. It seems you are, like Rag, talking about sequels in film/book sense, but those are games we are talking about. I will paste again definition as descriped by a giant bomb, because we are talking about games, not films. https://www.giantbomb.com/sequel/3015-3178/ https://www.giantbomb.com/spin-off/3015-1100/
I would argue that BG3 departs too far from the template of the originals. Some departures, sure, but one would be hard pressed to find similarities between originals and BG3 aside from generalities (there is leveling, there are companions, there are items) that would apply to many if not all cRPGs.
The issue is, that whenever BG3 continues story or has characters from BG1&2 is pretty irrelevant. With Bhaalspawn Saga being finished, there is no narrative need to continue the story. They could have made a Baldur's Gate3 that would start a new saga, and as long as it would mechanically continue and evolve what BG1&2 were doing, it still would make for a decent sequel. I would still say: "What's the point of calling it Baldur's Gate, as the series established their identity already", but creatively I think it would still be more valid that what Larian is doing. One would still make a Baldur's Gate game, just start a new story, because the old one was finished.
Giant bomb describes spinoff as: "A game that takes gameplay mechanics, characters, or story elements from an existing series in a separate and different direction, sometimes changing genres along the way." On the other hand, "In video games, there is often no narrative at all to link a game to its sequel (for instance, Forza Motorsport and Forza Motorsport 2,) and many story-focused sequels drop some or all of the characters, settings, and themes found in the original game."
I don't think it applies 100% to Baldur's Gate3, as the series have established world, so some narrative continuity is necessary, but games are games. They are to be played, not read or watched. As such, how the game plays is the most important aspect.
Ok, so you don't think that tamplate as established by Bioware can or should be used. So you reboot the franchise - not narratively (though even if plot and some character re-appear, I still see BG3 world as rebooted - just see recent conversation about mature content in what used to be a Teen adventure) but mechanically - God of War situation.
I would also refer you to Persona5: Strikers - it narratively continues Persona5 storyline, but as a game it is a spin-off. If they were to call it Persona5-2, it would create much different expectations.
Baldur's Gate series as such a done for, and BG3 isn't meant to complement them, but replace them, so it isn't a spin-off but a reboot. It is reimagening of BG1&2 basic concepts with focus on different elements than the originals, with bigger focus on systemic sandbox (with inconsistent result so far) and coop multiplayer. Not necessarily a bad thing (Bhalspawn saga is done and finished, and as you mention 5e doesn't lend itself to exact gameplay that BG1&2 had) but a sequel it is not.
But we end up, predictably talking about BG3, thanks to myself and Rag, while the tread is about discussing other games specifically.
Bloodlines finished its narrative neatly in one game. There isn't really much to continue, outside doing another decent story in the world of that game. As such, the only sequel one can do is the one that pays homage to Bloodline's design. Otherwise it is less Bloodlines2 and more of "another game in the same universe".

Except that there was coop MP in BG 1 and 2, my GF at the time and I spent countless hours playing it over LAN. As I said earlier, we have connections to the previous titles, enough so to justify using the name. I'm happy that you found someone to define terms for you that fit what you want to say. I'm sure, if I were interested in doing so, I could find someone to do the same for me, but I'm not interested in that. Just as I'm not interested in another round of "but it's DOS 3".
The Bhaalspawn saga is done for. Why do I keep getting "not the Warden" vibes here? Because it's not the Bhaalspawn? I mean, the exact arguments you're trying to use here are the same arguments made to imply that Dragon Age 2 wasn't a Dragon Age game, as well as Dragon Age Inquisition. I was there for all of that. We even had "Mass Effect is Shepard's story" things for Andromeda... That series made a lot of changes between each iteration. It's nice that you've chosen to assign the intent of the developers, but can you provide any links to where they said they were replacing the original games, or is this another half-baked argument offered up because that's how you feel about it?
Most of the games I play are excluded by age. Over the last couple of weeks I've been playing a lot of Skyrim, for example. Now prior to that I had some WotR, some Solasta, some Black Geyser, and Cyberpunk 2077. Before that I was in Fallout 4. I mean, I have 30 games just through GoG, including this one. Then there's Steam, and Origin, where I also have games, and my XBox... Suffice to say that I have plenty to do when it comes to gaming.

I feel I am not expressing myself clearly. I said BG3 has different focus than BG1&2, which it does, not that it has features that don't belong in BG game.
I also made clear that story continuation is less relevant, as the story was completed in Throne of Bhaal. "Not the Warden" is the complete opposite of what I said.
Dragon Age tell self contained stories, so also no need for direct continuation.
As to BG3 "replacing" originals I meant nothing by it really. Numbered entries generally aim to make a better game than the previous release. That's kinda the point, take a previous release and make it better or update it. If you make a sequel and it doesn't overshadow the original, than something went wrong, no?
And of your argument will be that Baldura Gate3 is too different to compete directly with the originals.... Than we are back to the argument that it is not really a sequel, is it.
I mean from what i have heared (you know that type of rumors when people say i have friend, who have a friend, who knows a guy, who have a friend, wich heared that friend of his friend knows a guy who said that they are doing this) ... It seemed like insteresting hybrid between Bloodlines and Vampyr ...
And quite honestly, i kinda liked Vampyr. Wich would be another recomendation to this topic from me ... that autosaving and "learn to live with your choices" is sometimes kinda anoying, especialy in situations where lack of intel forces you to pick between two options, where you dont really want to pick either, but mechanicaly its really enjoyable Vampire game with interesting story!´

Not a rumor. Just a guess.
My reason for thinking it would be terrible was all the chaos around the dev team (firing Brian Mitsoda, etcetera). No inside information or anything. Just that none of it inspired confidence.

Sequels very rarely overshadow the originals though. Even with BG 1 and 2, there are factions that believe one or the other is the better game. That's fairly subjective because of why one is better than the other. Is it better because there were higher character levels, for example. I prefer 1 to 2, but I have an unhealthy amount of hours dedicated to both. However, my point was more that you can have a continuation of a series w/out having to directly tie to any one thing in the series. Dragon Age continued, and will continue, a central narrative. That's not strictly available here, since the initial story has been concluded, barring any retcons, which I hope doesn't happen. However, closer to my point, is the fact that the Bhaalspawn events weren't the only thing going on in the Forgotten Realms. We're being provided with persons and locations that do tie in to the first two games, the first one for sure, and so, I don't see using the name as just a marketing ploy. Sure, there's some marketing involved, but as I said earlier, WotC/Hasbro are way too hands on to just let Larian do whatever they want with the IP.
Baldur's Gate I & II Divinity OS I & II Pillars of Eternity I & II
Deadfire is my personal favorite.
Thank you for bringing discussion back to topic. I prefer personally Solasta to any DIV game though.
Perhaps I am to old school in some regard, but I found none of these shooters interesting:
I do admit that I found HALO franchise of Microsoft as one of the best idea for shooters created. Well and no I am not interested in Battle Royal games. Please do not read the spoiler about HALO story unless interested do not click for Goblins:
The Halo TV series and books might go much deeper. That said the HALO movie in a nutshell Humanity had war example other planet vs Earth... it comes to an abrupt halt when a foreign threat from outer space threatens humankind. Time to end human war and try to win battle against this huge threat. This movie I like very much: Halo 4 Forward unto the Dawn
What I find a bit time consuming here is the MMO:S that I am at least slightly interested in:
Baldurs Gate 3 is going to be released in August 2023 and perhaps it will keep one interested in it still early 2024 but even from early 2024 it is long wait for some of these MMO:S indeed.
Throne of Liberty aka Lineage 3 MMO. Unreal 5 engine and the only fantasy MMO game (that interest me) I expect full release in 2023. Unknown what will cost etc. slightly interested. but like calling it Lineage 3 instead. Release date: During 2023. Voluntary PvP but my issues is with no classes and then PvE zerg farming bosses in outdoor dungeons and raids not balanced. Well and guess more or less buy to win elements could be included. Anyway beautiful game no doubt with Unreal 5 engine. In huge fights Lineage 3 reduce automatically graphics from what I have heard.
Ashes of Creation MMO with Unreal 5 graphics. The ultimate PvP world. On downside not only voluntary PvP. Huge PvP battles possible example 500 vs 500 players and an Dragon in that area that can affect outcome with Unreal 5 engine and plans to not reduce graphics interesting to see how they manage to do this? We have had really big fights yes, but yet not shown 500 vs 500 players. Hardcore old school type of MMO... Epic Raids and Dungeons instances. Slower levelup and progress. Well not pay to win and subfee. Release date: My guess year 2024 or 2025. During 2023 I do expect ALPHA 2 to come out and then lots of more information.
Dungeons Dragons MMO (Neverwinter ONLINE exist, but it is outdated) with Unreal 5 graphics. Developed in USA. Release date?: Unknown Guess 2025-2028. Even the name is unknown for this MMO.
Riot (company developer of League of Legends and n other successful games) upcoming MMO. Unreal 5 graphics. PvP will certainly be included more or less. Very unknown project, but huge budget. Will have Raids and Dungeons. Release date?: Unknown Guess 2025-2028. Even the name is unknown for this MMO.
Unreal 5 only better graphics? No it runs better system performance. Despite excellent graphics better system performance for big /huge fights. It runs much better then Ray Tracing yet manage to look as good. It runs better then Unreal 4 engine huge fights. One of the effects that Unreal 5 manage with other technology do what ray tracing can do and with much less system requirements.
Well and here is why Lost Ark MMO is not for me. I have played Neverwinter MMO a long time ago when released for over a year, but there has been no issue of bots in that game. I am not interested in Lost Ark MMO that has bots accounts that cheat and get gold and then ruin economy so some items become impossible to get for free players and then the forced daylies:
Well those oldes shooters you mentioned can be fun to play.
They the leftist have ruined Call of Duty®: Modern Warfare® II | Warzone™ 2.0 General to total SHIT. It has no country flags example American flag. I will not buy ruined games by the left.
It's getting slagged by a toxic community, but I am having a lot of fun with Darktide
Well a quick reserach told me it can be very good game but I would personally wait for more patches and bugfixes and performance optimization. I have nothing against that game... and I myself bought BG3 at very early stage in 2020.
yeah, that's more than normal to wait for patches to a game like that. i'm one of the people who doesn't mind being there to feed data in to the rebalancing and fixes since the gameplay itself is so fun. i've got hundreds of hours in it already.
Age of Empires 2 DE??? I bought it on sale for about 1/4 of what I’d usually spend on a night out just guzzling toxic substances… For a game that reuses the same maps/buildings over and over, it somehow has more diversity and imagination in every level than BG3 does in all its fights put together.
It’s really a masterpiece of imaginative design – limited resources, but they knock it out of the park with every level. Every one of the locations is ‘epic’, yet they just lean on some simple scripting and the same assets…
It just shows you. You can throw 300 people at a turd, but that particular organic matter remains the same…
Anyway, BG3 will be one of the better ‘yokes’ that falls out of the toilet of 2023 ‘entertainment’, in all its – lets be frank – mollycoddled, vacuous plop-plop-flushery.
AI is looking good though. Maybe it will advance to the point where talented writers can once again get their ‘controversial’ material out there without the zombie-gate-keepers saying ‘no’, and once again we’ll have proper stories…
I haven't seen "mollycoddled" used properly in a long time. A long time.
That spidery, velvety, not-so-nicey…mollycoddled grip: it’s the equivalent of the innocuous yet still quietly unsettling anamorphic profile-pic on twitter, a cartoon ‘creature’, queasily grinning, that looks so generic it could be the result of a mindless AI ‘model’ – because a smile is healthy, right?
Not when it’s as forced as a Jack Torrance hammer through the old doorr-e-oo.
Do you know what I’m talking about here?
Well if you don’t – I’m not calling out the BG3 reddit fanbase above: that’s not what I’m doing. Either way, it’s called sarcasm/joking – I think that’s still a thing in 2023, though some peeps are telling me that died off in 2021 and I could be castrated, disembowelled and pissed on for being ‘smart’.
Anyways, I’ve seen considerable variety in the BG3 reddit artwork, so I wasn’t mocking them, whatever you might like to fabricate. Sometimes they even showcase Astarion. I’m very impressed by the versatility of their imagination.
What I’m really calling out above is a make-belief alternate universe, where there’s a platform that apes twitter, yet all of the ‘inhabitants’ have bizarre anime profile pics (always grinning) and are, more less, evil incarnate when you actually try and converse with them..
I know, I know – doesn’t exist in reality. But that’s why I’m trying to pitch it to all of you as a potential DnD ‘epic’ story? Evil f*cking ‘harmless’ anime-type creatures who ‘welcome’ you in to their seemingly nice community – then cut off your knob.
Seems someone just does BG3-humour... I'd ask the same thing of you mate - because maybe you should check out a comedy act or something. It's called taking the piss??
I worry about people that can't do sarcasm.
But my bank a/c seems very happy with where my 'jokes' got me for some reason...

I think it's more I can't really understand your posts, and I'm guessing Warlocke was the same. I know you're using English words (for the most part), but I don't understand the meaning of the words when they're put together. I'm not trying to be passive aggressive here, I honestly can't understand what you're talking about with this post:

Is this a round about way of insulting progressives or something?
Seems someone just does BG3-humour... I'd ask the same thing of you mate - because maybe you should check out a comedy act or something. It's called taking the piss??
I worry about people that can't do sarcasm.
But my bank a/c seems very happy with where my 'jokes' got me for some reason...
I think it's more I can't really understand your posts, and I'm guessing Warlocke was the same. I know you're using English words (for the most part), but I don't understand the meaning of the words when they're put together. I'm not trying to be passive aggressive here, I honestly can't understand what you're talking about with this post:
+1. Not angry, just have no idea what konmehn is talking about. Assume Warlocke and Boblawblah are in similar situation. Clarify?

Are you and 'Warlocke' getting upset because you think I'm insulting you/someone - is that the reason for the snark? Unless you're telling me 'are you ok' is polite conversation and isn't someone being antagonistic/triggered.
And his (or their/etc) follow up isn't mealy-mouthed.
I was joking around - it's called 'wordplay' over here in Ireland. Ever read Beckett or Joyce - they do the same thing. It doesn't mean anything - it's just a playful bit of nonsense?
Jokes, basically...
Usually you take them with a grain of salt - at least where I'm from.
Stately, plump Buck Mulligan came from the stairhead, bearing a bowl of lather on which a mirror and a razor lay crossed. A yellow dressinggown, ungirdled, was sustained gently behind him on the mild morning air. He held the bowl aloft and intoned:
—Introibo ad altare Dei.
Halted, he peered down the dark winding stairs and called out coarsely:
—Come up, Kinch! Come up, you fearful jesuit!
Solemnly he came forward and mounted the round gunrest. He faced about and blessed gravely thrice the tower, the surrounding land and the awaking mountains. Then, catching sight of Stephen Dedalus, he bent towards him and made rapid crosses in the air, gurgling in his throat and shaking his head. Stephen Dedalus, displeased and sleepy, leaned his arms on the top of the staircase and looked coldly at the shaking gurgling face that blessed him, equine in its length, and at the light untonsured hair, grained and hued like pale oak.

That's the opening of Ulysses. Is that as baffling as what I posted? Or does it make more sense?
if you think your not-so innocuous, queasily grinning, vacuous plop-plop-flushery is simple binary, no wonder you are taking offense to their pedestrian balk at your quickly raised hackles.

haha - 'your quickly raised hackles'...
I'm just faffing about here amigo. You might want to quote where I'm getting angry - because frankly it looks like everyone else is reading too deeply into what I wrote.

generally, if your continuing to joke with people and they don't understand the joke and you refuse to explain it to them, that's not a joke, that's just mocking people at that point. You don't seem interested in explaining what you're referring to, so I'm going to bail out here, I can see a blackhole of conversation heading this way.

When somebody is desperately pleading for other to take offense that is a good call. Right behind ya.
The AAA games industry and me haven't been friends in a long time, and when all I hear about a game is it's big tech numbers, it usually tells me that the game is probably not aimed at me.
So my most anticipated releases for 2023 are almost all indie pixel games, and small studio releases, with the exception of Legend of Zelda. I'm also keeping an eye on the development of Wild Hearts, even though I've never been a big fan of Omega Force's games in the past.

Same for me for the most part. I will say, my guilty pleasure is going to be trying out that Harry Potter game, brings me back to the ps2 days I think it was. Was great. Other than that though, AA and indy games are just way more worth while. I'm actually trying out Mechwarrior 5 right now, got it on sale, it's pretty fun, albeit very frustrating for someone new to this kind of game.
I've been having a lot of fun with graveyard keeper, which is a stardew valley inspired sim game, except instead of farming and romancing townsfolk, I desecrate graves and make zombies. I'm not seeing a lot of replay value, but that's normal with games like this.

mechwarrior is a deep dive. but it's very rewarding
Well so it will support both the Console and PC. It has UNREAL 5 engine .
Well will I play it??? I wait for information will Throne of Liberty MMO (Lineage III) have subfee, cost to buy and if so price to pay, pay to win, how much pay to win JADA JADA all that is unknown they will tell that later. It is a bit extreeme they still do not tell this after all release is going to be June 2023 or earlier that is the plan at least.
Yes but how about test it in Open Beta? If I understood correctly Open Beta would require to travel to Korea they will have physically it there. Well and if someone actually is willing to travel there even then I would make sure that you fit in if it is physical location and not so you travel there and they tell sorry it is full you can not enter.

Not trying to derail the topic or anything, but it says pachanj was banned? Why? Don't the mods usually warn you first?

Probably best not to speculate on exactly why, as it’s possible they’re still looking at the forums even if they can’t post and it seems rude to talk about someone when they might be listening and can’t answer back.
But I am sure that yes, except for cases where behaviour is so bad that it warrants an immediate ban, mods would indeed give warnings, though these might be by private message rather than posted publicly in threads.

Manor Lords, Hogwarts Legacy, Atomic Heart, and The Invincible are the ones I am most looking forwards to this year. Tentatively excited for Dreadwolf as well (whenever it happens ). I think Vampire Masquerades will be poopy because of development hell (which is a shame as original game was great).
For old games, I return often to Dragon Age Origins. Best rpg of all time for balance of role play, choice and consequences, world building, and gameplay options (spell combos, setting tactics for party members, etc). Would be over the moon if an original IP with that type of player agency was developed with updated graphics! Still hoping!
I also weirdly liked the Dreamfall games. Shit gameplay, but such an original and beautiful world and story.
I also fire up TW3 occasionally just to experience a game made with love and a protagonist I enjoy. And to wash Cyperpunk epic fail from memory.
If all else fails, I make pretty things in Planet Coaster 😝
I'm excited for Hogwarts-A Legacy. As a big Harry Potter fan,, this is a must for me. At the moment I play Guild Wars 2. I like the story and the new take on well known fantasy races. At the moment, I mostly play my Sylvari ranger and my Asura necromancer. I love especially the Asura.
"We are all stories in the end. Just make it a good one."
Prompted by the recent discussion about voiced protagonists where it was brought up, I was thinking just the other day that I might try my first DA:I run for years and reinstalled it, only to run aground on character creation against the awful hairstyles. Why are BioWare so bad at hair when they’re so good at so much else? Not that I’m shallow … okay maybe I am. (And I know there are mods but even with those I can’t find a DA:I hairdo I like for my “canon” Inquisitor.)
I probably will get over myself and try another run at some time before Dreadwolf. I might even start at the beginning and play DA:O and DA2 as well, but even though it’s been a few years since I’ve done so, I’ve played both so much that I suspect they’ll still be too familiar. I do enjoy combat in the first two DA games way more than DA:I, though, so they’re probably worth replaying just for that.
I’ll also probably run another character through BG1/SoD/BG2 before August too, and like the relaxed feeling of playing these on my iPad. I also enjoy Civ VI on my iPad when I want to play games less intensely.
I’ll probably get KotOR2 for my iPad as well (KotOR was another iPad port I’ve already enjoyed), but only if it’s possible to apply the restored content mod (I think I’ve read we can, but haven’t got round to investigating properly). I loved KotOR2, perhaps even more than the original, but it really suffered from being rushed at the end and I know I’m far from being the only player who feels it desperately needs that mod to be satisfying.
I’ve also got an increasing list of RPGs I’ve started but abandoned, not because I think they’re bad but I just got distracted and they hadn’t grabbed me quite enough to pull me back in. I’ll eventually get round at some point to finishing DOS2, PoE2, Witcher 2, Solasta and Pathfinder: Kingmaker I’m sure. And then I can finally play Witcher 3 and WotR and experience for myself what folk have been raving about!
I also picked up Disco: Elysium in the January Steam sale, so looking forward to that!
Given all the existing games mounting up on my to be played list, I’ve not really been paying much attention to additional new games other than BG3. Dreadwolf and Mass Effect 5 will also be auto-buys for me, but info seems pretty thin on the ground so far so I’ve been trying not to torture myself by thinking about them too much.

Do I need to finish Origins to enjoy DA2 and Inquisition? I was 1/2 to 2/3 of the way through when I lost my save and I've got mixed feelings about replaying.

I wouldn’t say so. If you don’t import a DA:O save to DA2 there’s stuff you won’t see in DA2 as it will just use a bunch of default assumptions about what happened, but with the exception of a few guest appearances the story largely diverges from DA:O after Ostagar/Lothering and you’ll have already got past those.
DA:I uses the web-based Dragon Age Keep to set up your world state rather than imported savegames so in a way it matters even less if you’ve not played DA:O to the end, though if you try to use the Keep to specify what happened at the end of DA:O without having played it some of the options might not make a lot of sense. Or you can just take the default world state and run with it. The character you play won’t have known the Warden from DA:O, so it makes perfect sense to play them without knowing what exactly happened in the earlier game. There will just be some references and perhaps characters which don’t mean as much to you as a player as they otherwise would have, or stuff that you’ll find out in DA:I that you might already have known if you’d played DA:O to the end.
All that said, DA:O is probably my favourite of the three, so if you’re not sure about finishing that then I don’t know how much you’ll enjoy the next two. Though they do have different virtues, as well as different flaws, so still possibly worth a try.
EDIT: DA:O also had a fairly large expansion called Awakening that I think is quite good if not fantastic. I think it’s also possible to play Awakening without finishing DA:O (though you’ll need DA:O installed) and it will just assume your DA:O warden died resolving the events of that game and a new Grey Warden from Orlais has been dispatched to be the hero of the expansion. I confess I only ever played Awakening as a long epilogue to the main DA:O story though.

Also if this is a recommendation thread, I'm looking for something new to play. Relatively recent, but I'll take must-play classics. I've most enjoyed:
-Bioware Games -Bethesda Games -Larian Games
Also Thanks, Red!

Remember the human (This is a forum for a video game):
DA2 is a sidequel that sets up DAI. There is, or was, a pretty extensive 'tapestry' system for recreating your playthrough of DAO because it came out so much earlier than Inquisition that most people didn't have their save anyway. There's some stuff with Morrigan and the Wardens that makes an appearance in DAI, otherwise you've probably gotten everything you need in the first two-thirds.
Do I need to finish Origins to enjoy DA2 and Inquisition? I was 1/2 to 2/3 of the way through when I lost my save and I've got mixed feelings about replaying.
You don't need to finish Origins to enjoy DA2. It's a mostly separate story entirely, aside from a few cameos/references. In fact, iirc, the most relevant details only happen in the DLC to DA2, and reference the post-game DLC to Origins:Awakening.
For Inquisition...I would say that DA2 is much more relevant than DAO. Again, Inquisition references things that happened in DAO and has cameos, but if you played ~halfway through DAO then you're probably familiar enough with all the characters.
That said, DAO is a great game, and the post-game DLC: Awakening is considered one of the best DLCs for video games, so I recommend playing both. Or you could just start with Awakening if you really don't care to replay DAO, but think you'd enjoy high-level gameplay of Origins.

I'm not sure there's a lot that most Rpg nerds won't have played from those three. Alpha Protocol was a really interesting game, but you can't buy it online. Dragon Commander was a shit tactical game, with a fun story rpg element trawled on top.
If you haven't you could looking to the ways people are modding games, like the people transferring Morrowind into Skyrim's engine, Skywind I think it's called. There are also some pretty good mods for Neverwinter Nights. Also people have good things to say about Neverwinter Nights 2, especially one of its expansions.

Hahaa and then there is me Dungeons Dragons games fan (Pathfinder included it rules were developed from DnD 3.5 and reminds of that) but I am also MMO player. Oh and I am not DOS fan enough said. Like more Solasta, Pillars of Eternity and Pathfinder games.
Currently I play no MMO but I wait for these: Throne of Liberty aka Lineage 3 MMO. Unreal 5 engine and the only fantasy MMO game (that interest me) I expect full release in 2023. Unknown what will cost etc. slightly interested. but like calling it Lineage 3 instead. Release date: During June 2023 or earlier.
Also people have good things to say about Neverwinter Nights 2, especially one of its expansions.
Thanks for the reminder. I keep meaning to try NWN2 again, as I think I only gave it one run-through and it didn’t grab me. I did play the first expansion, but don’t think I even bought the next. Perhaps it would strike me differently now.
That said, I wasn’t a great fan of the original Bioware-produced NWN either, though I loved the HotU expansion and as you say there are a number of fun mods, given that the game was so mod-friendly.
I confess I haven’t even tried Skyrim. I played about two hours of Morrowind years and years ago, and it put me off the whole franchise (again, not because it was bad necessarily, just very much not my cup of tea at that time). It might be time to put those old prejudices aside as well, and give the Elder Scrolls another chance.
I also played the remastered Final Fantasy VIII on my iPad recently which brought back some fond memories and I enjoyed hugely, but I can’t tell what it would be like without the benefit of nostalgia. I haven’t got round to the remade Final Fantasy VII yet but that’s another one on my list: FFVII was my first ever FF game and JRPG back in … 1997? 1998? but I haven’t played it for decades so can come to the new version with few preconceptions.
As I write all this, though, it’s pretty clear I spend too much of my time replaying old games and should probably make more effort to engage with new stuff!

I played Neverwinter Nights 1 and its expansion and n modules and on couple of player drives ONLINE servers created with Neverwinter Nigths 1.
Played also Neverwinter Nights 2 and expansions but it was soon forgotten since NW2 was released in 2006 played had not time with it was not so good as MMO:S back then.
2004 World of Warcraft MMO November 23 release date 2008 Age of Conan MMO release was fairly good, but was soon buried because WOW released its most popular expansion: November 13, 2008 Wrath of the Lich King expansion and it was glorious 10/10 my rating for WOW gaming during that time and during that time WOW achieved maximum popularity over 12 million active players!
For me NWN 2 as a short experience it was released in wrong time in the glory of best MMO gaming time. While I played Neverwinter Nights 1 much more indeed then Neverwinter Nights 2.
A little window into my gaming right now, I've been ping ponging between finishing a playthrough of BG:2 I started a year ago, and finally playing my PC version of FFVII:Remake, I think all the stuff they preserved from the original is pretty spectacular. That and Choice Of game that just released, like I was trying to play an RPG at every tier of game production.
I never got very far into NWN2 myself, but I really liked the village segment at the beginning, it'll hang out with Icewind Dale II, games I'd really like to play, until I do.
I have to add this post about gaming addiction. While I have liked games before very much no other game has made me so much addicted as World of Warcarft MMO. It is not so fun subject you might think.
I had fulltime work and then got into November 13, 2008 Wrath of the Lich King expansion ---- It was to good to be true! No loading times between areas immersion was perfect. As a Druid you could transform to Panther or a flying predator bird perhaps it was hawk and fly among trees in WOW. Flying mounts also great movement perfect seemless world.
Excellent PvP battlegrounds! Excellent EPIC PvE Raiding! As pre step before raids do some Dungeons those are for 5 people while Raid size can be much bigger. No bugs ok system requirements flawless!
I noticed I began to feel ill and tired when I played 60 hours /week World of Warcraft MMO after Wrath of the Lich King expansion had been released. Well I reduced it to maximum 40 hours /week and again it felt great like a drug in gaming. Eventually I got bored on WOW MMO and when the silly Panda expansion was released I quit WOW MMO. Before that every WOW expansion had a cool theme.

You missed Vanilla - that was a Golden Age. After Lich King I was done, game was not for me anymore. There will never be an MMO as good as WoW Vanilla until AI starts developing games.
To stay on topic – and I’ll make no attempts at humour this time round – I really would implore everyone to check out Age of Empires 2 DE. No, I’m not an AOE 2 shill – I just coded their website. Also, I don’t have much time for games anymore, and we’re really in some kind of game-drought at the moment, but this game is truly a masterpiece.
The balance of the various units is well-thought-out. Everything is so squeaky-clean in terms of design and whatnot.
The AI, likewise, gets an intelligence upgrade each time you crank it up from standard to moderate to hard. It doesn’t get the cheat-upgrade, basically, which is more HP, more resources or what-have-you. It’s also a nice system-shock every time you move up to the next ‘difficulty’ – you’ll be beaten and think it’s unfair, but then realise it’s really just a smarter opponent who’s more cunning. Ie – on standard it won’t try to rebuild anything you destroyed. On moderate, it harasses you and rebuilds anything you burnt down. On hard, it’s just more forward about knocking you out of the picture.
The campaigns are ludicrously well-done – every level is somehow new, as I mentioned before, even though the assets remain identical.
Plus, it’s not like I’m pitching some wildly new genre to the BG3-heads, because isn’t all the Larian stuff ‘strategy’ of a similar kind?
The artwork is exceptional. And the effort they put in to the crumbling buildings when they’re destroyed is, I think, the best I’ve ever seen, in a game or a movie. It’s so perfectly detailed and satisfying.
Native languages used for each faction. The Portuguese monk is a personal favourite, with his lowkey authoritarian righteousness (don't even know what the dude is saying).

Before that every WOW expansion had a cool theme.
You missed Vanilla - that was a Golden Age. After Lich King I was done, game was not for me anymore. There will never be an MMO as good as WoW Vanilla until AI starts developing games.
Here is my Wow history in truth. I played in WOW BETA, but had miserable gaming computer old one and was saving money type so did not play it at start so did not play WOW when full release.
I started play World of Warcraft PRE Wrath of Lichking first time at that point first expansion Burning Crusade had been released which was cool it was about Demons.
My brother was playing with me but I had more then one character that I leveled since I was the hardcore player sinking more time into it. When I and my brother hit level 60... we joined our Guild in runs that did level 60-70 Dungeons /Raids and PvP Battlegrounds. The levelup was also something I enjoyed and I loved also low level PVP example battleground for level 30-40 levels PvP.
Wrath of Lichking expansion release.
WOW MMO was slow levelup back in those days. In fact so slow my brother complained more and more it is TIME SINK and he does not have time for it. My brother quit WOW MMO when he was level 74 with his Druid he had only one character as more casual player.
I continued and enjoyed World of Warcraft MMO.
As for your take all is bad after Wrath of Lichking expansion? I enjoyed Cataclysm expansion and while perhaps not so good as Wrath of Lich King basically Cataclysm was cool it had a Werewolf race example and also Dragons and earthquakes, volcanoes that had changed the world.
The end of cool expansions for me: First expansion Demons. Second expansions Undeads, Cataclysm Werewolf race and Dragons you see a pattern here of cool themes?
Everything cool until World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria expansion came. What was even worse they made a big Panda playable race so I had to see cute Pandas running here and there and this was rampant there were people who wanted to try play the new race a cute big Panda. I quit soon after this expansion was released.
I do not doubt that it is good, but I do not want to get hooked now playing 40-60 hours/week. That can change when I go for early retirement in less then 5 years from now.
Well and saying the new release is better then the original back in the days when WOW was young is like saying apple is better then orange really. A question of taste.
Well and before anyone reads to much about my post when saying this: "Everything cool until World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria expansion came. What was even worse they made a big Panda playable race so I had to see cute Pandas running here and there and this was rampant there were people who wanted to try play the new race a cute big Panda. I quit soon after this expansion was released." I certainly do not want to kill Pandas in real life to extinction and I do not hate them. In addition all these so called pets in WOW that exists? I have nothing against them that is fine.
Well and do not come to me saying Cataclysm was not challenging PvE content. I remember Blizzard got complaints the Heroic 5 Dungeons were stonehard they felt more like challenging Raids. Well I did Cataclyms endcontent and Blizzard nerfed the challenge at some point. Hahaha and if you want to have challenge in Dungeons Dragons 5 system how about Solasta main campaign and do not use diplomacy kill Vampire Boss and all the Vampires when you are level 5 and do that on hardest challenge level. Oh that Drama my brother even screamed it was KILL or DIE all
To stay on topic – and I’ll make no attempts at humour this time round – I really would implore everyone to check out Age of Empires 2 DE.
Man, I haven't played AoE 2 in YEARS, probably decades actually. That makes me want to pick it up again.

I never said it was bad. I just said it was not for me after that. My therapist and I are working on less elitist language options.
Vanilla WoW was a singular MMO experience for a few reasons.
1. You earned all your equipment - you didn't get an Epic unless you busted your ass for it. That meant 40 man Raids, which meant you had to be able to work with others, accept criticism and get better. 2. There was no handholding at all. The Map generally didn't tell you where to go, if you got lost you looked it up on thotbot. You had to read stuff. 3. The game had a real sense of danger and challenge, and the risk/reward/loss balance was excellent. 4. The PvP felt like you were in an actual warzone - you get caught out in contested territory and no allies? Well you better hope they are carebears. 5. There wasn't a problem that could not be solved with friends and allies. 6. It made a space for solo play but there were clear and strong rewards for non-solo play. The game encouraged teamwork. 7. WoW Vanilla killed it when it came to building faction culture. People were loyal and invested in Horde or Alliance. Especially if you had to level in the Barrens. 8. The Barrens. 9. Barrens chat. Kek 10. The Dread Citadel Naxxramus - hardest Raid ever, less than 1% of players completed it. 11. PvP games that could last for days! Looking at you Alterac Valley! (Play for 6 hours, leave, sleep, come back to same game for 6 more hours) 12. Easy to play, hard to master. A lot of subtle complexity.
So going from that to even Lich King was just not a good fit for me. It became too easy to get Epics and there was less cooperation.
Oh and Classic is a very watered down version of Vanilla. Blizzard admits this. All raids nerfed. The landscape is much more friendly (less dismounting), and servers are huge. Its all GDPK guilds now. Transactional, empty relationships.

Well you must be joking, because I think you said Age of Empires 2 definitive Edition. I looked at a video, even the weapon sounds are exactly the same from AOE 1 - which came out in 1997.
Is this a nostalgia thing?
By the way, I have it on good authority that the more you snip and argue with people in the forums, the faster the game will come out. True story!
You're right about the hair, it's mostly awful in vanilla. I tend to mod my games a lot and normally use hair mods in DA games.
My favorite DA game is DA2, despite it's flaws. Female sarcastic Hawke is my favorite protagonist.
"We are all stories in the end. Just make it a good one."
ATOM RPG Trudograd. A post-apocalyptic RPG inspired by such venerable classics as Wasteland and Fallout, but with a Soviet coat of paint.
It just reminded me of the bowl of goat's milk that old Winthrop used to put outside his door every evening for the dust demons. He said the dust demons could never resist goat's milk, and that they would always drink themselves into a stupor and then be too tired to enter his room..

Cataclysm expansion in World of Warcraft MMO had harder Epic Dungeons then Wrath... expansions and the challenge is very hard to demand ok gears ccore is normal.
I think it is normally people get kicked out if gear score is not enough good beacause if the raid team is not strong enough the PvE bosses might kill everyone and the Raid will not be success.
It has happened to me also that rarely sometimes I get kickded out if example we win 2 Boss but then on 3rd boss we die again and again Well then leader kick out those with less gearscore that is normal and ok.
You know long time ago when Neverwinter Online MMO was released I as free player earned the best mount and had gear score something between 15k-20k. I had a friend the "poor "one I he was not so hardcore player as me and his gear score was something between 8k-9k and he did never buy the fasters mount he buyed instead a cheaper mount. Neverwinter ONLINE MMO is buy to win you can also get fastest mount and better gear score with money pay to win. Anyway for one easier Dungeons I was often leader with my friend and then sometimes some sigh player with 4-5k join us. I tell him/her you can join us your gearscore is to less for this Dungeons. I have done this really many times. Sometime if our other player have very good gear score perhaps then I do not kick them. Do not get fixated about my gearscore above. That was early after full release less then 1 year passed I later got much better gear score but eventually quit Neverwinter Online MMO.
Gear score is in my opinion perfect to check.
Example of Elitism that makes no sense to me: WOW raid years ago an old youtube video by Asmongold: Asmongold said something like that ok you have ok gear score but now everyone in this raid does show me that you have earned this special mount do it now! Asmongold checked players that switched to that special mount Asmongold demanded.. well you have that mount but wait 2 players are not near here?! Asmongold rided and found the 2 players that tried to hide and then he laughed and said you can not be in this raid and kicked them out. I mean that makes no sense to me at all that mount would not help them in that Raid this was more modern WOW long time after I had quit.
Asmongold has posted like a more then 1000 youtube videos I believe and generally I have nothing against him funny leftist call him racist that is not true he is indeed white man and yes white lives matter accept that. In fact despite that one bad video I would say my opinion about Asmongold is sligthly postive though would not call me some hardcore fan of Asmongold or anything like that. Perhaps he has even deleted that old WOW post years ago but that is example of Elitism in WOW that makes no sense to me demand all have earned some special mount that would not help in any way in the WOW Raid.
It is not that people are Evil and demand that is why gearscore is good enough. It is so that the PvE monsters WIN and kill all! Below hours of gameplay in attempt to finish Elite hard PvE Raid:

I support my fellow Austinite Asmongold. No seriously, he is a good guy. I don't watch all his stuff but I do like to check in - he seems to always try to be fair-minded with most things.
Although when it comes to gaming, and Classic WoW he was pretty elitist. However, it's his guild and he can run it how he likes. If he is doing a stream with everyone on a single mount for the lolz then it fair to expect everyone that wants to be in that to do what needs to be done. Nobody is forcing them to be involved.

I don't want to argue with you about American politics, but my general understanding is that no one questions the descriptive statement, "White Lives Matter," or "All Lives Matter." Of course lives matter, black, white, and all. People get upset because it is a counter-statement to the phrase, "Black Lives Matter," which is specifically brought up because Black people in America consistently have a lower life expectancy than other Americans due to police brutality, unequal access to health and nutrition factors, and a general lack of policy-based and economy-based support that other demographics may receive. On average, a Black American lives seven years less than most other Americans (Citing the National Institute of Health from the US Department of Health and Human Services).
Also, I'm not a leftist. I'm not even on the left. I'm just making an observation.
+1 for Asmongold though.
Remember the human (This is a forum for a video game):

Personally I consider their only their leftist view that it is counter statement to black lives matter and I truly think white loves matter and I am white. It does not mean I am saying that black lives do not matter of course black lives matter.
Here is the controversy that has hit gaming industry. The new" Call of Duty®: Modern Warfare® II " PC game has BANNED all American flags the only USA flag you can find in the game is a destroyed one pieces of it. That is insane! Seems parts of USA decision makers have become completely insane seriously.
I am from Europe, but of course American flag should be shown if want and Americans should be proud of their country example in sport events or any other event. Yes I know everything is not perfect in America. Here is the thing I do not think any perfect country exists in the world and it is an Utopia unrealistic dream that a perfect country would exist. EDIT. They banned all country flags. They are insane!
Some deep thoughts that has not directly to with gaming please do not see if not interested. Please do not see spoiler if not interested in such.
The laws are very different in countries and please do not think Europe has adapted all leftist values thank you. What USA decides does not affect all Europe laws. Denmark Europe prost. is legal, and weed is legal. Finland, Europe my country prost. is legal, but weed is illegal. Sweden, Europe prost. is illegal and weed is illegal. Germany prostitution super legal prost. is even considered official work employment you pay tax as prost. and brothels area exist many indeed in Germany, minor amounts of weed possession legal, but for recreation use illegal so you can not practically use weed in front of policeman in Germany or you will get problems. USA most states 98% if not even all USA states prost. is illegal, in most USA states if not even all by now weed is legal.
It has gone out of hand what is next? Ban USA flag in sports event because it refers to "nationalism and right wing"? I am totally against this crap of banning nation flags. Nation flag represent pride true, but that is the core in many sport events to represent your country.
Oh and Europe is Europe. I am 99%+ sure Witcher 4 will have full nudity so this does not affect necessary every gaming firm these insane new ideas. Now if Witcher 4 would have example main character a woman that is very possible theory or that you can play both man or woman, but regardless it will have lots of nudity.

Eh, never played the first one for a start. You ‘looked at a video’ and could assess from just that how original AOE 2 DE is? That’s quite a skill – how does that work btw? Sounds incredible to me. I wish I could do likewise: just google a youtube video, watch 5min of it and be completely clairvoyant about all aspects of the game’s pros and cons.
I don’t think that’s even real, though, is it?

No, like I said, I never played any of these games ‘back in the day’ – too young still compadre. So you’re getting a ‘fresh pair of eyes’ on it – yes, it is of superior quality to the modern dross, for sure, and for all the reasons I outlined and that you conveniently skipped over.

What’s that in reference to? Just came straight out of the blue with that one…
You sound salty about something – maybe you’ll tell us all why. Was it because I don’t think BG3 is quite up to scratch?
Definitely this AOE 2 DE is a million miles ahead in terms of how it’s put together – I’m just talking straight design here. It’s so much more entertaining than BG3, and every other modern game I’ve attempted to play lately.
It’s also just my opinion.

I might be talking through my hat here, but ya may have more credibility if you actually address what people are saying to you, rather than nercro-ing posts that weren’t even directed at you to begin with…
Apologies y’all. I hadn’t properly looked over Blackheifer’s post history – if I had, I would have realised he’s a ‘chad’ who also recruits other ‘chads’ (haha) to, yeah, play baldur’s gate 3, like the absolute and utter lady-magnets that they are…
Except, eh, in Ireland – at least – you are not a ‘chad’ for being good at a video game.
No, the Irish girls don’t rate that, crazy as it might sound. You’re not an alpha male for kicking ass at BG3 in Ireland.
Yeah, it’s a tough gig over here – you’d want to have a bit more than BG3 going on for ya to be attractive to the Irish ladies.
Anyways, I was just making some mild small talk by saying AOE 2 DE is a great game – I’m not trying to be ‘elitist’ or anything. I just think it’s a very a good game, and better than BG3 by a long shot.
Jaysus. I don’t know which is worse…the irony of a self-proclaimed alpha male obsessively studying the history of another dude’s game forum posts to then chastise the dude in that same forum for being too obsessed with that game (and forum)…or the hair in DAI.
Hmmm. Hair in DAI wins. That hair is unforgivable and definitely destroys replay value of an otherwise ok game.
At least according to the leak, Dreadwolf will have better hair!😂
You dont mean Solas tho, do you?
I’m still a little confused why they chose to give him such a strange shaped head. I shave my head daily. Got a Bruce Willis receding hairline, so I say screw it and just embrace having a naked scalp. I appreciate the bald representation, but something unsettles me about his proportions. His eyes are too high or his cranium is too smushed in. It distracts me. I can’t help notice it every time I see him.
Not a big deal for me though. I am not a fan of that series (or anything else BioWare ever made post Baldur’s Gate), so I would be surprised if I play Dreadwolf.

I also noticed his odd shaped head. Not to be indelicate but he looked like a "forceps baby" - where the doctor used a bit too much pressure when extracting him and deformed his little noggin.
Definitely an "uncanny valley" feeling when looking at him.
Well I hope they do at least finish Dreadwolf - but it's not looking good for that franchise. Thanks EA - you can ruin anything.

While EA does pollute everything they touch, some of the vault is also on BioWare. According to the reporting their process was always a chaotic mess and every game they made was a miracle that came together only at the very end of development, held together with prayer and duct tape. That kind of work culture is bound to catch up with a studio eventually. Now pretty much everybody who made their games so successful have left. Might not be a bad thing. Maybe they hired an awesome team of people, but it’s a total shot in the dark and I’m not holding my breath.
I do hope that BioWare paid attention to Final Fantasy 7 Remake. They tried to make a party based, pause and play action hybrid twice and I didn’t find either particularly fun to play. Then FF7R came out and, at least in my opinion, showed exactly how to do it.
If they decide to put their own take on that formula, I’m totally down to give them a shot, despite my usual misgivings with their games. While I appreciate a strong story, gameplay is always king for me. As long as the story isn’t isnt atrociously awful I be forgiving on a good enough story.

I think it's almost time to put Dreadworlf with VTM2:Bloodlines. Paradox is really just another version of EA. It's game design by bureaucratic fiat with corporate objectives. Bleh.

Look, for what's its worth I think AOE was a fine game and I was really just "taking the piss" as you folks say it. I am not in agreement that it is better than BG3 or even comparable on almost any metric..at all...but everyone is entitled to their opinion.
Humor, as I am sure you aware is oftentimes subjective and cross-culturally hard to translate accurately. For myself I don't really get offended by anything much - even direct insults.
Having said that I have concerns about your fixation on women - Irish women in your case - and "chads" - as its terminology I have seen elsewhere. Normally here I may keep taking the piss with you but in this case I am going to encourage you to discuss these things with someone more qualified to work with you. I would encourage you to seek a professional audience not associated with male-focused Internet forums or video game forums. I think you may have a lot to say and a lot to unpack.
This is not me joking, at all. I wish you the best and I am going to invite you not to interact further.

You try to explain your correct observation partly wrong, which is no wonder when we analyse media obsession with certain incidents. I'm from Europe and I have a scientific relation to criminology, I try to see it not that ideologically. But I'm a bit angry about easy peasy explanations. Black Americans are not killed more frequently by police in relation to criminal activity than Whites, Hispanics or American Indians. So the reason for higher death rates among Blacks is not police brutality but higher involvement in crimes. The latter is by and large based in worse social living conditions and life chances (not least because of the widespread racism in the US) but also in a pathetic "bros in the hood" ideology, sadly not uncommon among Black males.
Interestingly there is clear statistical data that Black people in the US are more often bullied and beaten by police, compared to their involvement in criminal activities or per police contact, than Whites or Hispanics. So there is seemingly a racist element in police attitude towards Black people. It just does not result in more careless killings, like propagandized in mass media. Killing people is not something easily done, even if you are a racist, it has enormous repercussions to your life, that's the reason for the data. Such differentiation is of course far beyond anything many journalists are capable or willing to deal with. They love anecdotes.

The Harvard study specifically states, "A previous national, county-level analysis found that the racial distribution of police-related deaths is not explained by the racial distribution of crime in those areas," citing https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0141854
"Across almost all counties, individuals who were armed and shot by police had a much higher probability of being black or hispanic than being white. Likewise, across almost all counties, individuals who were unarmed and shot by police had a much higher probability of being black or hispanic than being white. Tragically, across a large proportion of counties, individuals who were shot by police had a higher median probability of being unarmed black individuals than being armed white individuals. While this pattern could be explained by reduced levels of crime being committed by armed white individuals, it still raises a question as to why there exists such a high rate of police shooting of unarmed black individuals."
All studies above indicate that in a given encounter with police, a Black American is over 3 times more likely to be shot than a White American. Keep in mind, this is already WITHIN encounters with police, so some level of crime is already given (not necessarily having been committed though), and the above quote demonstrates that the threat of the suspect is less relevant to the use of deadly force than race.
Small Edit: The term in the US is White vs. BIPOC. Generally speaking, White Americans have a higher life expectancy than almost any group, and a lower incidence of police violence or brutality than any group.
Another study, https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s11524-020-00430-0#author-information , indicates that "minimal-or-less" threat individuals were 3 times more likely to be killed if non-White. Additionally, Black Americans make up more of police deaths proportionally than their share of the population. Even if crime is more prevalent, for a single population to make up a larger-than-proportional segment of police-related deaths regardless of the threat level posed indicates some level of excessive use of lethal force.
Second small edit: The study you are likely to referring to (Perhaps the Johnson Study), where it is argued that Black Americans are only more often victims of police killings because they commit more of the crime is a frequently criticized study by other peer-reviewed journals like this one: https://www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/pnas.1919418117 . It is equally likely that racial bias in policing inflates the numbers of "Black Crime" as it does lethal force against Black Americans, thereby leading to the (faulty) claim that Black Americans are no more likely to be killed by police than White Americans.

Remember the human (This is a forum for a video game):
I’m still a little confused why they chose to give him such a strange shaped head.
Indeed ... But i allways simply dismissed it as an Elf thing.
I mean, im aware that nowadays Elves in Dragon Age have regular shaped skulls. (not that i checked ... >:] but i did MUHAHAHAHA ) But Solas is meaned to be litteraly ancient, he is over 4.000y old ... if we would appear in year -2020AC ... besides to dying in few days to common diseases our bodies are not used to ... we would also look quite different from peple back then.

I still dont understand why cant we change Race for our hirelings. Lets us play Githyanki as racist as they trully are!
While it is true if you traveled 4,000 years in the past people would look different, it wouldn’t be quite like that. On average most peasants would look a lot older than we’d think they were and would have worse skin. Nobles and rulers might look better off depending where and when. And there would be more people with conspicuous deformities (like Solas I guess) that today doctors could take care of. And of course people on average were much shorter, so if you are 6 ft tall you’ll very much stand out. But people would otherwise look the same as they do now. Human skull shape hasn’t changed for a few hundred thousand years.
Disease wise we would probably be fine. We’ve inherited thousands of years of genetic immunities because we are the descendants of people who survived those diseases. Natural selection at play there.
I’ve not played FF7R so am not going to say it doesn’t do gameplay better, but I really enjoyed combat in ME:A, even though I was initially worried as I tend to avoid games that require good hand-eye coordination and quick response times as I’m frankly rubbish at them. But it felt like a great evolution of gameplay in the first three ME games. Whereas DA:I combat I found extremely disappointing and a big step backwards from both DA:O and DA2, largely due to the over-simplified-to-the-brink-of-nonexistence tactics system.
In short, I don’t personally think there’s a clear pattern of prioritising story over gameplay by the studio. Though it’s clear that there have been many things wrong there that have led to their games not living up to their potential, so perhaps it’s not a bad thing that there’s been some staff turnover. I’m also not sure how much is EA’s fault but I agree it doesn’t seem feasible that all the blame can be laid at their door.
Still, while I think both DA:I and ME:A could have been a lot better, the next episodes in the franchise would need to be far worse before their new entries cease to be auto-buys for me.

Rag buddy, I am worried that we may need to get you therapy to help you let go of VTM2. :P
You know what though, BG3 is the only game I really NEED to come out. I think I can die happy as long as it gets released in some form before the total collapse of humanity. That way I can sit in my bunker and play it while my food supplies dwindle. If I can die just as the final credits roll that would be great. I know, I am a romantic.

Yeah, but the diseases we would bring to THEM would probably end the human race...and that WOULD kill you technically if you count non-existence as death.

I don’t think that they necessarily prioritize gameplay over story, I just think that they aren’t great at designing gameplay systems. Even Origins was a bit underwhelming for me. The game was largely chugging potions and spamming whatever was on cooldown.
Then in DA2 they dumbed down the strategic gameplay while padding out every single fight with waves of enemies. Can never fight just a group of random thugs in an alley way, you need to fight their 20 buddies who were chilling on nearby rooftops too. It was just such a slog.
I didn’t really play Inquisition. Eventually I bought it for $5 but only played maybe 3 or 4 hours. I ran into a group of bears while not paying attention and half my party was immediately downed. Realizing I wasn’t winning that fight I decided to run away, only to discover you can’t. If you get too far away the bears teleport to you. I had to run all the way across the map to a safe zone to get away. Once I did I just paused for a moment and said “this is bad” and uninstalled the game. 😂
I’d love for Dreadwolf to be just absolutely awesome. Party based RPGs are my favorite type of game, and there aren’t many big budget ones to choose from. I’m not expecting anything from BioWare, but I’d love for them to change my opinion.
I also hear rumors that Starfield is in a bit of a Charlie-Foxtrot development hell and that MS is forcing Bethesda to rush. Heavy sigh.
Yeah, but the diseases we would bring to THEM would probably end the human race...and that WOULD kill you technically if you count non-existence as death.
I guess it depends which time travel rules we are using. 😂
And I forgot that Vampire the Masquerade is supposed to one day be a thing again. I wonder what the behind the scenes story is there. Well, it’s usually always the same: bad management.
Human skull shape hasn’t changed for a few hundred thousand years.
True ... But this isnt purely biological matter ... is it? There were some tribes that alterned shape of their skulls for ritualistic purposes ... sizes, shapes and positions of different parts of our faces (nose, eyes, ears, lips, etc.) would be quite different.
And even if it would be matter of biology ... you are forgeting about single important thing! We, Humans on our planet, are the only "intelligent species" (i know, its questionable statement, but lets put that aside for now) ... we cant crossbreed with anyone else. Elves in Dragon Age are compatible with Humans (and as it is in most Fantasy worlds), their descendants are capable of futher reproduction. Meaning old elves could have hypoteticaly look a lot more like Solas ... And i would even say that they do: https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/dragonage/images/9/97/Abelas.png/revision/latest?cb=20141129134033 (img tags dont work) But today elves, dont have so "pure" blood ... i mean, 4000 years its long time ... and nobody would know how much human blood was added to your lineage during that time.
Also ... There are some theories around the internet that first Elves in Dragon Age were actually just spirits, who materialized physical body. Just as Cole from Inquisition did ... or that Templar leader, who was actually a demon ... or like, well, basicaly every demon you meet in physical world there. So, maybe he just picked this shape of head.

This is quite common missinterpretation. Sadly its not even close to how things works ...
Have you heard about Spanish Flu for example? People didnt get immune, virus mutated to "less fatal" version of itself ... basicaly we got lucky. :-/

Well, no, that is how it works. One of the reasons that the indigenous populations of the Americas were so devastated by the coming of Europeans (aside from us being a bit awful to them) was that they hadn’t inherited genetic resistances to small pox and other common diseases of the Old World. Europeans had these resistances and if you have European, African, or Asian ancestry you likely do to.
Genetic immunity on a continental scale is something that builds up over generations, not a single outbreak like the Spanish Flu. It happens because virulent diseases kill off the people who are most susceptible to them. Those left over to parent the next generation had more efficient immune responses and thus, so do their children.
So if you traveled into the past you would be taking generations of built in immunity to diseases with you, and wouldn’t need to worry very much about getting very sick.
Have you heard about Spanish Flu for example? People didnt get immune, virus mutated to "less fatal" version of itself ... basicaly we got lucky. :-/
Ah yes, there is a theory that viruses don't actually want to kill us because it prevents propagation. That over time they reach an equilibrium* - where they learn to function and reproduce without being fatal to the host, OR to only enter stage 2 (full replication and lysing of infected cells) at some (possibly arbitrary) signal from the host that it is about to die anyway and so it makes a final attempt to infect new hosts.
Viruses and fungi are fascinating little buggers.
*It is not my intention to ascribe any sort of intention to this behavior. I am anthropomorphizing a virus, which is not accurate. They method by which they replicate and survive would favor NOT killing the host.
Oh, and I hadn’t heard the theories about elves and humans reproducing in DA. I remember in the run up to Origins BioWare said they could reproduce but together but don’t often and if they do the offspring is either just human or just an elf. So I’m not sure how much bearing that has. Your image didn’t come through so I can’t see whatever evidence that was.
I believe the offspring are human, it's a plot point in one of the games I think.
Yes, I recall this being mentioned. I am certainly no biologist but I guess the pseudo-scientific explanation is that human genes are dominant in some way. Alistair, for example, has one elven parent yet appears totally human (at least it’s very strongly implied that a particular elf is his mother, though I’m not sure whether it’s ever been 100% confirmed).
I think there are other indications that pre-Veil elves were different from modern day ones, but iirc that’s more to do with life span and magical affinity than head shape . Not that I personally see Solas’s head as appearing particularly odd.

We may find out one day. Jason Schrier (I think that’s his name) does great gaming investigative journalism. We found out a lot about Anthem’s disaster. So who knows?

Exactly ... they come to contact with bacterias, or viruses their body didnt know ... Wich is litteraly what would happen to you.

Childern sure ... bcs there we are talking about 20-30y difference, and those childerns often live in same living conditions ... But the more generations come in between, the less im willing to believe that your body is carrying some ultimate imunity against illness, that may not even exist nowadays ...
And there is lots of generations in 4000y.

Well, since we would never know ... i think we can agree to disagree. If you would ever invent time traveling, let me know ... i would gladly be prooven wrong.

I mean, im no biologist, bacteriologist nor virologist myself ... obviously. But from what i have read (and i may have undersand it wrong), most mutations exist trough pure coincidence ... all those "little buggers" as you (and certain old lady) say, are basicaly constantly evolving, in incredible speed ... luckily for us, most of their mutations are not too dangerous for us ... until they are. :-/ But jut that they are teoreticaly able to create thousands variations of themselves, wittin few weeks (maybe even faster) ... well, if this isnt fascinating, i dont really know what would be.

Im not really sure if we should read that from genetical perspective Half Elves equal to humans litterally ... or just take it as if there is any distinction they are not able to find it in Thedas. (wich i just cant help the feeling that some should be there, but i understand that they didnt want to bother with it, even WotC are throwing halfbreeds away)
Still ... That is my headcannon. :P Elves breeded with humans, linger around humans, and in general were often figuratively becoming humans more and more ... until they started even look similar.
And until BioWare will provide us any better explanation, that is what i stick to. (And yes, i would probably accept even that Solas as a child fall on his head )

Why are we allowing bad faith actors turn this forum into yet another tiring political battleground?
Ssshh! We’re talking loudly about elven genetics in the Dragon Age franchise in the hopes it’ll drown out inappropriate discussions of real world politics.

Ha, if I ever travel into the past I’ll let you know.
One correction though: ALL mutations are random. Most are benign, some are bad, and those that are good and provide the organism with a better chance at survival and passing them on.

Glad I’m not the only one taking the conspicuous re-derailment approach. ❤️
Yeah, trying to bring scientific genetics into it probably doesn't pan out. It's supposed to reinforce the elves as a oppressed minority slowly going extinct. Pertinent to Solas' story.
Let me also re-endorse Final Fantasy VII Remake. Apart from a dodgy climax, it's fun, and the battle system is the first time I've enjoyed one of their 'active battle' systems.
Not an RPG, but a game I’m loving right now is Gravity Rush 2. It’s not my normal type of game- playing as a magical anime girl isn’t my thing, and the game certainly has its rough edges, but it’s so very unique.
Actually, here's a general request: Sell me on your all-time favorite RPG and why everyone on this forum absolutely needs to play it. What makes it the best?

I adore FF7R. I’m not much for nostalgia, but getting to replay a cherished childhood game that looks this good and plays so wonderfully is a treat for me.
And I actually like what they are doing insofar that the end sets up
the dramatic tension of not knowing if we can save Aerith from her fated death. I don’t know if you are old enough to remember, but in the halcyon days before the internet as it is, the desire to find a secret to save Aerith was so potent in our young minds. I like that SE is playing on this.
I’ve also always been a big fan of Yuffie and her don’t give no fucks attitude, so that the DLC really did her justice by giving her a stronger story motivation to join the party and her own Sephiroth facsimile is just great for me.

Planescape Torment remains in my eyes an unmatched achievement in video games. All RPG players that can handle some retro jank need to play it.

I'm not precious about 'sticking to the script', but I think similar to the most recent Star Wars trilogy, there's a potential for the game, in an effort to subvert the narrative, to fall flat on its face. I'm more baffled by the recent need intellectual properties feel to, in-universe, justify changing their stories. You could have had the climax of the second act be different from the original without having Crisis on Infinite Fantasies. I've just replayed Remake and I really began to resent whenever the Whisper showed up in the story.
The first third of FFVII is really what made that game for me, I'd say everything up to the city of the ancients is great, while everything after is good. A lot of that hinges on Aerith's death, changing that should have me worried, but because they handled everything so well in Remake, I'm still worryingly optimistic about the next one.
Also I'm not invested in the extended Final Fantasy VII universe, so adding all the Zacks and Advent Children stuff won't do much for me.

For me, I would highly recommend the following:
Crown of the Magister - One of the best modern technical interpretations of D&D I've ever played. admittedly the first story was very linear and the dungeons were, for the most part, very small. Still, overall the game was fantastic. And the DLC was quite good and not as linear.
ToEE - Admittedly a quite old game, and fairly broken on launch. If you download the C08 patches it gets MUCH better. And yet another fantastic interpretation of D&D, albeit an earlier one than BG3. And the story is fairly light. But as far as dungeon crawlers, it is amazing. There are even several C08 additional content packs worth playing.
And if you want to REALLY Old School, try out the original Gold Box SSI games. You can get them on Steam for pretty much a song (I think I got the entire collection for less than 10 dollars US, containing something like 15 games).
Pool of Radiance (SSI Gold Box) was fantastic and well worth the playtime. Curse of the Azure Bonds has it's issues but is still worth the time Secret of the Silverblades is FANTASTIC and my favorite of the bunch Pools of Darkness was quite good but suffered from artificially spiking the difficulty using BS methods.
The Krynn SSI games are also tons of fun, particularly if you enjoy that setting. Admittedly, towards the end they start relying on cheap tactics to artificially increase difficulty, such as making every other monster level draining undead that are highly resistant to Turn Undead. But if you can get around that, you are in for a great time.
The "Into the Wild" set from there is pretty good, but the other two settings were better.
The Eye of the Beholder set was variably pretty good as well. The first one is the best, but the others are worth playing.
And if you haven't experienced Hillsfar? Oh, boy are you in for an experience.
Let me also re-endorse Final Fantasy VII Remake. Apart from a dodgy climax, it's fun, and the battle system is the first time I've enjoyed one of their 'active battle' systems.
I adore FF7R. I’m not much for nostalgia, but getting to replay a cherished childhood game that looks this good and plays so wonderfully is a treat for me.
And I actually like what they are doing and hit the end sets up
the dramatic tension of not knowing if we can save Aerith from her fated death.
I can understand that.
Multiverse fatigue in pop culture is understandable.
I’m willing to give SE faith and see where this going. My personal theory is that Zack from the alternate timeline is going to find a way into the main one to try save Aerith for the sake of love and die in the process.
And SE have said the Whispers were just a Remake thing so you won’t need to deal with them anymore at least. 😂
I’m also not invested in the compilation material, but that actually works for me because I don’t know who these characters are. I’m hoping that the Yuffie storyline will be a DLC thing; each part of the trilogy gets a Yuffie and eventually Yuffie and Vincent side story where they handle that content separately from the main story. That would be ideal, I think.
Whoa! Apparently some Dreadwolf gameplay just got leaked. If this is true (the footage wasn’t shown, just still images) the game is very different. It’s now a God of War style action game and party control has been completely eliminated.
Well, I wasn’t expecting that.
Now I’m looking forward to BG3 and FF7Rebirth even more. Party based RPGs are getting rarer. Both the Pillars of Eternity spin off and FF16 are doing away with party controls too.
Edit: saw a tiny bit of footage on Twitter and God, it looks like trash. Clunky combat and stiff animations. No wonder they aren’t sharing it yet. I know it’s still alpha, but yikes.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised. I think you could only give commands to your squad mates in Inquisition. That's actually totally wrong, man it's been a while since I played Inquisition

I guess they decided to just give up on tactical action hybrid for straight action. That wouldn’t give me such hesitation but for BioWare’s reputation for unimpressive animations. For any other game I’d say what they’ve shown could very well be unpolished placeholders but given that it’s BioWare, I wouldn’t be surprised if they didn’t improve. The character model’s armor is super awkward looking too, but that typical for the series.
I don’t know if BioWare is long for this world. Might be another acquisition casualty left in EA’s wake.
But I’m not prescient, could be totally wrong. Maybe it will be great.

Planescape Torment remains in my eyes an unmatched achievement in video games. All RPG players that can handle some retro jank need to play it.

That what I thought was revealed in this weird promotional video.
Honestly, DA will be better of going for action gameplay - RPG systems of DA were never great, and Bioware lost any interest in team based combat after origins. Anything will be better than DA2/Inquisition's combat

I really wouldn't worry about the presentation - it is a leak, not footage intended for showcase. All that it shows, I think, is that game is unlikely to release this year.
