I really hate NPCS talking to the closest character after combat, and I know it's been mentioned before about how many of us do not like this, and I saw in a reddit post Larian are working on a way to combat this. Is this still happening?

it already happened as of this patch 9 the main character should be auto selected at the end of combat or when a talk happens... the small issue is that change they made doesn't work
Luke Skywalker: I don't, I don't believe it. Yoda: That is why you failed.

I did feel that my main PC was being talked to more often, even when another party member was closer, but thought I might be imagining it. I didn’t spot in the release notes or elsewhere that there had been an intentional change … I suppose there were a lot of notes. But yes, if this change has been made it’s certainly not working all the time.

And hasn't the the game always defaulted to the PC after combat? If no, that is a really good change to the game.

It wasn't mentioned in the patch note but this appeared in the options : Which, indeed, still doesn't properly work (apparently), I believe? I haven't played enough this patch to encounter this issue, but I've read people reporting that they did (including here).

Oh wow, you know this is a common complaint that people have been having since even the original Divinity Sin 1, and it's so nice to see that they are not just listening to this feedback, but actively working on it. I wonder what 'restore' means?

I would guess that "Restore" means the character selected at the start of the fight. Meaning, if your were to trigger a fight with a companion like Shadowheart, she would be the character selected at the end of the fight. Meanwhile, "Avatar" will always be the custom character (I don't know how that would work in multi). Ooh, thank you. I hadn’t spotted that and have clearly missed any posts here talking about it! Interesting to know. Honestly, I'm not sure such post exists (I could be wrong), I only found that option while messing with the settings 😅.

Yay! Very happy to see this! If it works, it will be great to have the choice for dialogue that starts automatically to go to the pc!

It seems hit and miss. The game will still chose another charecter for some reason sometimes. It does seems to work in many cases (still seems to be distance related).

Might be me but what has "Autoselect a character after combat' to do with "switch who is speaking in Dialogue' ???

I had one scene, where suddendly Shadowheart was the one doing the talking (Auntie Ethels 'Eat up, Mayrina'-scene), despite me having the avatar option active.

After combat ended, I was transported below and entered a cut scene with Halsin. That's a good sign in my book, because previously a cut scene like that would have been triggered with another party member.

In my first patch 9 playthrough it initially felt as though the functionality was working well. Though I didn't actually know at that time that it existed, I did note, for example that the pink haired tiefling who I saved from the bugbear assassin (can't recall her name, sorry!) came and spoke to my MC despite the fact that there were definitely other party members closer.
In fact, in my first playthrough I'm pretty sure I didn't see any NPC talk to any other party members until later in the game, and I remember thinking "damn, I'd started to think they'd fixed that". I wish I'd known to look out for it as I'd have paid more attention to when this was, and I'm now wondering if it actually was working and hotfix 30 broke it, or if I was just luckier earlier in that playthrough than in my second post-hotfix one.
Does anyone know whether people noticed it not working before that hotfix released?
