The error on the site is very simple to explain. They use a scripting language created by microsoft <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif" alt="" />. Everybody knows PHP is better than ASP (not ASP.net).

[color:"yellow"]My answer from the Gaming site - PLEASE tell me what you think about his suggestion

My name is Tomas Skøie, and I am the developer of ToTheGame.
The overflow error is now fixed!
I have a suggestion to how we can secure safe voting, and I would love to have your opinion.
The problem is that we can only avoid multiple voting per person by logging the IP, but it is very easy to change IP. Therefore the IP is not enough. It is not possible to do it by cookies because it is very easy to turn the cookies off. But it is possible to log the number of votes per game in example one hour. So, what about making it possible to only vote 50 times per game in one hour independent of what computer the vote comes from? In that way it is not possible to vote 1000 votes by changing the IP, or by inviting 1000 friends to vote.
I would love to hear your opinion![/color]

Since this thread all I do is vote. Where were the days the internet was used for porn <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/silly.gif" alt="" /> (just kidding <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/stupid.gif" alt="" />)

It won't change anything I'm afraid...
The "bad guys" can "downvote" <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/riftrunner.gif" alt="" /> 50 times in 5 minutes if they want to, while "upvoting" their favorite game, leaving the fair voters no chance at all anymore to vote... It's probably even easier to abuse it that way because you can't counter it efficiently.

Just my thoughts <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" />

the problem here is . you just vote 50 times with dynamic ip adres. and the "normal voters" cannot vote annymore...

that's no good idea after all...

it's better idea to log into this website as a (free) member, like on this site
no log in = no vote...

Hi,

Maybe. What if someone gives Riftrunner a rating of "1" fifty times in an hour? We'd have to wait an hour...but so would that person...It then becomes a question of patience. It limits the number of good votes but it also limits the number of bad ones.

Thanks.

no that would be silly i think.

just you can vote once on that particular game and maybe again after a few days or so.
it's like our "silly polls" on the site <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
you can only vote once...

Hi,

I think visibility may be an idea. You can only vote if you log in under a specific user name which you have registered. Another condition can be set into place. A person can look at a user's profile and see how they have voted on different games. People might be less likely to vote 1's if they know others will find out who it is that is doing it.

Thanks.

Also very true Lockmar. But i think only voting as a membr is good, although there is a way to abuse that too. Register as multiple members fe. But the idea of Lockmar and that of Bean together could work. I dont know how mutch programming it will take nor if it is doable, but i think this could be the sollution.
