Larian has invested alot into this, and Hasbro/WoTC is faltering with its digital plans except for this game. I know it is controversial right now but this is shaping up to be my personal game of the decade.
I just have a pipe dream that all of these assets and this team can then be put on cranking out a ton of official modules, the content is there, the assets are there, one team can be focused on driving this story or other original stories forward while smaller teams can take ready made content and crank them out. I believe there is a market for it.
Making a modding kit would increase the longevity of the game if Larian is only looking to produce 1 BG/DND game. I know they have mixed feelings about it, but providing resources gave Bethesda games longevity on the lines of decades rather than years. There's something to be said for having a company's game leave a cultural footprint beyond just the produced game itself. Emergent value and all that.
