I agree the way that ambient dialogue makes it hard to review the combat log is annoying.
But with respect to the effect of karmic dice vs normal dice, some forum members did some useful analysis recently. This implies that the behaviour of karmic dice might not be quite what we'd expect, but does make higher rolls more likely, whereas non-karmic dice rolls do seem to be fairly distributed, despite what it feels like sometimes.
