Hello folks!
In my recent playthrough I've noticed that there are some developments towards exhaustion system, at least there is a status effect on the wounded bird in the grove:

Did they mention anything about this mechanic before?
I wonder if this could be an indication that we'll get this system up and running.

Nothing has been told officially, we've just discussed this many times here.
The status effect on the bird exist since a long time. Probably from EA launch.

Yeah, there used to be at least one thread on the Berserker about it because it hasn't been affected by the exhaustion panelty yet. I'm already preparing myself internally to hoard https://baldursgate3.wiki.fextralife.com/Potion+of+Vitality hehe

Hmm, I hate the exhaustion mechanic, especially for Berserker Barbarians.
If they reintroduce it, that subclass will be completely useless again.

IF they do, please at least make it so that Berserkers can reduce their exhaustion on a short or long rest!

That way you still get the malus in the fight itself, and especially in longer dungeon crawls, but you are not completely crippled if you play the game as intended and do not long rest after every little fight

Unfortunately, this is also something I fear the most, as it simply makes a change from the other conventional ranged weapons with its throwing combat mechanic, and I would like to continue playing this innovative ranged combat style without any annoying restrictions. So I appreciate your suggestion very much.

They could just simply change the effect of exhaustion levels to make them less violent.
The berserker subclass is OP now but there's a middle ground between OP and useless.

RAW effects are too rude for the game but, in exemple speed reduced by 2 meters, -1 on attack roll,... would be perfect trade-off.
And (extra) food to reduce exhaustion of all characters could also be interresting. Let's say they need +5 rations / level of exhaustion when they long rest. Still just an exemple.

Agree that it is OP now, but that is mainly because we are stopped at lv 4.
At lv 5, fighters, barbarians etc get an extra attack. So berserkers go from 2x the attacks of fighters to 1.5x.
And of course fighters add a lot of damage with their maneuvers, especially Riposte (which, if you build your character well, also gives you an extra attack each turn).
And of course they get extra feats so you will be able to do stuff like PAM + GWM + Sentinel etc

Berserkers do not get any strong class features after lv 3, they are really defined by frenzy...
Changing the exhaustion to not cripple Berserkers specifically would also have other downsides, as balancing usually has.
For example, how would that affect the viability of spells like Sickening Radiance?
Or how would that interact with the thing exhaustion was initially intended for, overworld travel and a lack of rests?

Honestly, I think any fix that is there because any specific class is unbalanced should only affect the class, not more broad mechanics, as that always has unintended sideeffects.
I like your idea a lot (though I would like leaving exhaustion out even more), but I still prefer exhaustion being removed on a short rest for Berserkers specifically smile

Yes, in general you should be rested and not exhausted after short or at least long rest. It doesn't feel right to me to be exhausted after a rest.

I don't like the multi-stage exhaustion model. There was something similar in the predecessors, but it only referred to the level deprivation of vampires and shadows that needed Greater Restoration spells to be healed.

But IMO exhaustion and level/skill deprivation should be handled differently.

I have written out my thoughts in more detail in a new thread:

+1 for exhaustion being in the game (if only because Larian could use it to encourage our characters to long rest that first time, when we might otherwise be too scared to).

+1 for using the implementation of it from the One D&D playtest (cumulative -1 penalty to everything for each level of exhaustion). I'd also argue for -2 foot movement speed per level.

However, I think there should be something that allows the restoration of more than 1 level per night besides Greater Restoration (5th level spell = not accessible until 9th player level). With this weaker One D&D form of exhaustion, perhaps lesser restoration could restore a level? Or if you upcast it to 3rd level, it can? This would allow Larian to play more around with monsters giving out [multiple levels of] exhaustion during combats, without it being as absolutely punishing as getting multiple levels of exhaustion is in current 5e.

Ahhhh dang it! So with Patch 9 it seems Larian nerfed Potion of Vitality. Its description no longer mentions removing exhaustion, only curing from any poison or disease.

On the other hand, we now have general item inflation as far as healing ampoules against poisons are concerned: Potion of Vitality, Antidote, and the Elixir of Silvanus.

It remains fuzzy as to what will happen with the Berserker and exhaustion system, but at least someone is reading our posts.

How could there be any kind of exhaustion mechanic when you have effectively unlimited Long Rests. Probably they tried implementing exhaustion and then removed it when someone in playtesting got a headache when they had to think about stuff.

I would very much like some long lasting conditions. It's beyond stupid that diseases last 1 minute. Exhaustion falls in the same category but I think poisoning, diseases and other injuries are more important. First, long rests need to be made into a meaningful mechanic. The game can do without exhaustion, but Frenzy needs to be toned down for sure.

I'm sorry, but if you can easily stack up three levels of exhaustion after three fights, and long rest removes one level each... There is no way in hell I'd accept that. That's among the most unnecessary mechanics I've ever heard of. It adds nothing of value and makes stealing from merchants a necessity if you don't want to hoard food.

With the bug in the game that makes my items in camp disappear, I'd be literally unplayable right now. Not without robbing the halfling merchant blind every.single.day.

That exhaustion is removed I had also thought at first, but Nettie's bird still has the condition and even if you cure it. However, you can only regenerate the birds hitpoints with normal healing spells, but not its condition. So far correct.

I didn't know at the time that there was this stupid potion throwing mechanic for heal and buff aoe-surfaces, then I could have tested healing the bird from the exhausted condition with a Potion of Vitality, but it probably wouldn't have worked anyway because the impact would have caused damage again and Druid Grove would have become aggro....

Hopefully the Berserker will remain somewhat serviceable.

I think the exhaustion for that bird was added as a way to fix the issue of it watching every move you make. He was stopping a lot of sticky fingers…

I think the mechanic is to late.
Such a fundamental mechanic must be Bulletproof integrated from begin.
How can you place monsters or design a Dungeon with special rest places withiout this mechanic ready?
