To stay on topic, Larian added pronouns way before this new RACE drama
. Also doubt WOTC is going to force the issue, as so far I see no sign of this. I mean they would need to rework more than just Race word removal if they would keep in line with the new roles. As I believe race modifiers are totally gone as well, lol. so it would be too much hassle to uproot all that stuff at this stage in development. Instead of crying wolf, let's just wait and see.
Yeah, the mechanics are much more important than what word we use. BG3 is probably too far along in development to switch to species. Maybe they will, but there isn't exactly a benefit.
Personally, I find it ironic to switch to species (implying greater genetic differences) and /then/ to remove the effects of these differences. I'm not sure what they're trying to achieve. The use of species isn't scientific, either... though the removal of defining traits may explain the ability to interbreed. Which, would also favour the use of "race", but that's not what they did.
