Good question. Perhaps if resting and restoring slots for all the fancy magic stuff wasn't that easy, being able to spam a fantastic cantrip like Eldritch Blast would not be seen as that bad? I'd wish a wizard or priest would have such a nice spell. Would be unfair, of course.
