I'm sure this has been talked about ad nauseam, but could someone help me out here? I am struggling to find definitive information about these 2 things. Here is what I have found out on my own. 1) I know more subclasses are going to be released with the full game, but I cannot find a list of what those are. And 2) I did read several years ago that Larian did say they planned on Multiclassing. And that was all they said.

What I am most interested in playing is a Divination Wizard. At level 1, go Artificer so I can wear armor and cast. As well as have a shield. Then go wizard and highly focus on disruptive spells, like Bane, Bestow Cure, Slow, etc. However, the more I try to find any information about subclasses and multiclassing, the more I feel like this might not be an option. Which is not the wnd of the world, but I have an idea for a "Control Wizard" and everytime I've attempted to play it in table top, the groups fail.

So I was hoping that someone here might know of a thread or read some information that I haven't been able to find.

Also, I was curious what people planned on playing when the game came out. For me, if I can't play this multiclass divination wizard, here are the things I plan on playing that I know 100% for sure are already in the game.

1) College of Lore Bard.
2) Life Domain Cleric
3) Thief Rogue
4) Evocation Wizard

I don’t think there is anything definitive.

I believe Larian initially indicated that they intended to implement PHB classes (or perhaps that was just races?) in which case we could expect Monk, but Artificer isn’t PHB. That said, we do already have race (Githyanki and I think deep gnome) and subclass (Oathbreaker paladin) options that aren’t PHB so there’s some hope that we might get some extra choices at release.

I think it was in an early AMA that it was said multiclassing was intended to be part of the game. I don’t think I’ve seen anything since from Larian, though someone here did mention they thought there might have been more recent reconfirmation.

Personally, I’ll probably start with a Wild Magic Sorceror playthrough, but reserve my right to change my mind! I’ll almost certainly start with a custom character that doesn’t share a class with any available origin characters, though.

Nothing is for sure, here's my understanding of things:

1) Divination spells have been mostly ignored at the moment :
- some of them replaced by skill checks (ie. "Detect Magic"),
- some would be useless because the game gives a lot of information on things (ie. "Identify", "Legend Lore"),
- other spells might be too complicated to implement (ie. "Contact Other Plane"),
- some might not be as useful/pertinent given how the game is set ("Locate X" and "Scrying").

Thus, I'm not sure Divination Wizard would be advisable (personal opinion, of course).

2) Larian has confirmed the races from the PHB but I don't know about classes/subclasses.

3) Artificier is not PHB, hard to say if it will be implemented or not. While I hope for non-PHB content, I think it's wiser not to put too much hope on it. That being said, I think its important to voice that interest. Show that people really want non-PHB content as well (whether it's spells, races or classes, or even certain mechanics) 🙂! Some of those non-PHB features offer so much flavor!

4) Multiclassing was confirmed by Sven (multiple times, I believe) but was never planned to be part of the EA. So, I think we can at least count on that ^^

Personally, as of now (it's ever changing 😅), I've planned (non-exhaustive lists) : a Ranger-Rogue (inspired by Connor Kenway from AC3), a Copper Dragon Bloodline Sorcerer (a good noodle yet trickster/Charlatan that could also take some levels as Bard because Copper Dragon loves bards*), an Archfey Warlock (Oberon as Patron) and a Lore bard (I have created various Lore bards actually, the later is a Wood elf, using the flute and some druid/ranger-like spells, might be my final pick for my "canon" playthrough).

Depending on whats added, I could also go for a Eladrin Wild Sorcerer (needs non-PHB spells like "Infestation", "Absord Elements" and "Chaos Bolt", though) or a Shadar-Kai Shadow Magic Sorcerer 💜

Yes, I have no clue to be honest, but I also have a doomed feeling about Divination. In particular Portent. A lot of the spells you mentioned I am not overly interested in and wouldn't be too beat up about if they were not put in. I am much more interested in the spells that are geared towards disruption and control. While I want all the spells available, like you said, you can't expect them all to transfer over to a video game. It's just unrealalistic. But as The Red Queen pointed out, there are some non-phb stuff in the game already. So here's to hoping Artificer is in, as well as the options to try this character I have in mind! Including the feats required as well. :P

**Edit**
Also, if they can make the Deck of Many Things somewhat work for BGII, I feel like there is a small glimmer of hope for some of those types of spells you mentioned! And here's top hoping the Deck of Many Things makes an appearence in BG3! :P

*Waits for lectures on why having the Deck in the game would make it bad/not fun/dumb idea* :P

You know there is going to be mods for everything under the sun right? People are going to mod in all the subclasses not in PHB, and probably all the extra races and goblins, new clothes, classes, etc...

There is a huge modder community here that are already modding the EA.

That's an excellent point! I forgot about mods.

I am very excited for full release because I am going to hold multiple versions of the game modded in different ways. I am going to have groups that mod the game in various ways. It's going to be great!
