is it possible to install and/or play baldurs gate 3 without steam? there was some recent update with steam that is causing all my friends window to appear entirely black. i cannot accept the invite from my friend to join their party.

i hate steam. it is so bulky and always tries to remember my username even though i have it set to not remember my credentials. it is nice portal but it is so cumbersome. due to that black window issue i followed a forum advice to reinstall steam, and it just completely uninstalled/deleted the bg3 game install. now i have to wait 5 hours of downloading bg3 again... through effing steam.

if there IS a way to play bg3 without steam, would i still be able to join our party using multiplayer direct invite codes?

ideally i want to just install bg3 without steam entirely. if there is a way to do this, can someone point me to the install directions?

You can buy the game on GoG, it can be played without a launcher there. You will have to share a code to play with friends this way.

wow i did not realize baldurs gate was sold from other retailers i would have definitely bought it from gog.com if i had known. ugh.

Interesting, the GOG version opens the launcher for me.

It does with the shortcut GoG generates, you can just go to "Program Files (x86)\GOG Galaxy\Games\Baldurs Gate 3\bin" on Windows and launch the actual .exe from there.

That’s one of GoGs benefits. Generally you own the game. Theoretically, if GOG goes under tomorrow, you can still play your games - just don’t delete it. With Steam it’s more like you have a long term lease. Unfortunately I also got the Steam version before I realized it was also on GOG.

Oddly enough I own a license on both Steam and GoG. true story. I use the GoG version on my iMac and the Steam version on my PC.

Hello. I want to play baldur's gate 3 offline mode with my friend. I tried according to this article https://buycheapplaycheap.com/gaming-news/can-you-play-baldurs-gate-3-offline/ But, It doesn't split screen in the character creation screen. Can someone help me to fix it?

Incidentally, the Steam version of the game can ALSO be launched without Steam (or the Larian launcher, OR both).

That aside, this is one of the weirdest sets of complaints I've heard about Steam. "I don't want it to remember my credentials" being the highlight.

You can run the game directly from the bg3.exe or the bg3_dx11.exe (Vulkan and DX11).
