Also people have good things to say about Neverwinter Nights 2, especially one of its expansions.
Thanks for the reminder. I keep meaning to try NWN2 again, as I think I only gave it one run-through and it didn’t grab me. I did play the first expansion, but don’t think I even bought the next. Perhaps it would strike me differently now.
That said, I wasn’t a great fan of the original Bioware-produced NWN either, though I loved the HotU expansion and as you say there are a number of fun mods, given that the game was so mod-friendly.
I confess I haven’t even tried Skyrim. I played about two hours of Morrowind years and years ago, and it put me off the whole franchise (again, not because it was bad necessarily, just very much not my cup of tea at that time). It might be time to put those old prejudices aside as well, and give the Elder Scrolls another chance.
I also played the remastered Final Fantasy VIII on my iPad recently which brought back some fond memories and I enjoyed hugely, but I can’t tell what it would be like without the benefit of nostalgia. I haven’t got round to the remade Final Fantasy VII yet but that’s another one on my list: FFVII was my first ever FF game and JRPG back in … 1997? 1998? but I haven’t played it for decades so can come to the new version with few preconceptions.
As I write all this, though, it’s pretty clear I spend too much of my time replaying old games and should probably make more effort to engage with new stuff!
"You may call it 'nonsense' if you like, but I've heard nonsense, compared with which that would be as sensible as a dictionary!"
