So random problem I had with my Oath of Ancients Paladin. I was playing him as good as possible, and fighting in the Nere fight. At one point my Paly killed one of the fifteen million Duregar thatcome after you (Just defending himself) (not a deep gnome) and it said I had broken my oath? As soon as I got out of combat I got a cutscene where some dude in armor approached me and said we will speak at night and I had broken my oath. (???). But I slept and nothing happened, except my channel divinity was lost. Still had all my spells and my lay on hands though, and my character sheet still said I was oath of ancients. Anyone else have this issue?

Weird indeed. While there are lots of reports of oaths breaking unexpectedly, I’ve not heard that specific issue with the oath breaker knight not appearing in camp. I take it he’s not there? He normally appears not far from Withers.

I can’t recall what exactly you can’t do when your oath is broken, but I think you can do most things and your oath won’t actually change unless you speak to the knight and confirm that you want to become an oathbreaker. Otherwise, you should be able to just carry on but without the few abilities that aren’t accessible without an intact oath or pay the knight to restore it.

If no-one else here recognises this as a known issue, then sounds like it may be worth sending a savegame to Larian support to see if this is something they’re aware of.

If you’re in Grymforge then unless you skipped content I guess you’re almost at the end of EA so won’t be too badly affected by continuing in your current state. But just in case you do reload and try again, I’ll check you’re aware your paladin’s oath won’t break unless they personally finish off the NPC with a weapon attack.

I'm not commenting on the oathbreaking part (since I'm not a fan of the system to begin with), but in this case, could this be because they only implemented for the oathbreaker dude to appear at the surface camp? So, you would need not to be indoor or underground?

yeah, Inreloaded my save, triggered the cutscene, ran away, then came back whilst they were unawares and had Asterion sneak attack ambush everyone to death. No oathbreaker.

Good thought! I’ve just checked as I do have a save with a newly broken oath in Grymforge from an earlier playthrough. The oathbreaker knight does appear in my Grymforge camp but he’s down some steps away from the main party area (still near Withers) so could be easy to miss. But I’d broken and paid to restore my oath earlier in the game, so couldn’t check out the cutscenes in this scenario as I think we only get them the first time.
