I saw a walkthrough of stealth killing harpies but in my game they are invisible and appears only after cutscene with enchanted tiefling boy? I hate fighthing them with my team becuause they always spam that fucking song. How I could make them visible?

Huh. I had no idea that was possible. They did spawn for me when ignoring the boy and stepping into the water once, I think? Triggers combat for that character.

Maybe you can sacrifice one and have the others sneak up on the harpies?

This encounter has gone through several iterations over the patches; the harpies used to talk to us. Suspect the video watched was of an earlier patch.

Drinking invisibility potion and running away? If they don't despawn, they should still be there. Unless, you're also worried about the song's instant chance to hypnotize as soon as combat begins. I really don't know what to do about that

Maybe, you could also have Shovel walk into the water in place of a companion? That might start combat right here and there

Does a summon start the fight? If not buff one character and send them in to start the fight . Then the rest sneak in and attack.

I’ll admit I’ve never tried this, but does protection from evil and good protect against the song?

I usually send one or two characters down to Mirkon to trigger the cutscene and protect him, and keep a couple of characters with decent ranged options well-separated on the cliffs opposite, then focus on breaking the concentration of any harpy that’s successfully charmed any of my party. That has always worked well enough that I’ve not needed to try anything clever in this fight but I guess there’s an element of luck.

But even if the fight could be started in stealth, that would only benefit the first round as stealth would break on attack. Unless we’re talking about trying to actually stealth cheese the fight as opposed to just get a free round of attacks in?

So the Harpies are still there? Fought them shortly after EA release but never met them in my recent campaigns.

BTW would be great if you couldn't stealth cheese the whole game, so I had no problems at all if the Harpies were immune to it. grin

Yes, still there.

Protection from Evil does nothing because they are not one of the creature types mentioned (ie fey).

Oh yes, I’d forgotten that it only works against charm from certain creature types. So is there anything that can help protect against the song, except Bless to boost saving throws?

If shovel can trigger it and spawn them while Tav is in stealth, it should work as an ambush. I don't know if it will actually start the fight for shovel, though. Or if OP is fine summoning shovel in a solo playthrough.

I only know for sure that at least sometimes during patch 9, you don't need to talk to the tiefling. I had one of my party accidentally step in the water while experimenting with that fight and it just instantly summoned them.

Combined with fly at level 5 + barrelmancy before they even spawn (should they truly only spawn when you step into the /water/) = cheese?

Infinite invisibility loop is there, too, but that's expensive. And annoying. Plus, you could be charmed start of cutscene. Using shovel can avoid that (?), but only once. Still have to cheese or face solo game over for being charmed.

Ah, yes. I saw the reference to a team in the original message and didn’t spot that the OP had later clarified they were solo-ing. I can see how charm could be more of a problem in that case.

There’s a helm - near the entrance to the Kua Toa area in the Underdark? - that I think gives some sort of boost to wisdom saving throws though can’t recall exactly what it does. And even if it were useful it would require leaving the beach scene until later in the run.

I get the feeling most solo runs involve reloading a save 5 times until you get lucky 😅

I get charmed usually once in three turns, sometimes 2. So Invisibility potion (+ double attack starting level 5) + haste + helm = profit?

Can't charm what you can't see, right? If you can kill roughly one harpy/turn, that's 4-5 potions? One method to stealth kill...

Harpies arent hard, annoying yes. I normally avoid them cause they dont give any good loot or exp, just lots of stress when your 18wis character goes doh, yeah i will come and let you kill me.

imho

Yeah, if you are doing a solo run, I think you should put it out of your mind that you need to do every encounter. Some are not feasible without exceptional luck and I’m pretty sure this is one of them.
