I found this clip on Reddit and I think that it absolutely calls for discussion.

The scene in question.

I have my issues with the game, but as a fan of warlocks, this is incredibly cool. I HOPE that as warlocks on the anti-absolute path we get a sequence similar to this, because it's a fantastic way to get around the issue warlocks can have in a video game, where they're a class that can have a lot of roleplay strength but in a more limited game, that can easily be lost.

I think it's little more than Larian trying to make a custom character feel less dull and generic in comparison to the origin companions (all potential player characters). Larian promised their fans that BG3 would deviate from D:OS2 in this after all and this is a small sign of them being true to their word. Doubt it will be anywhere near as tangible as the paladin mechanic, but its a welcome nod to immersive roleplaying nonetheless.

Larian's implementation of Oathbreaker was much more interesting than just selecting oathbreaker as a subclass.
Maybe they will fully implement the Absolute as a warlock patron (even unlock dfiferent spells/ invocations).

My only question would be: How is is possible that i never seen it in game? O_o
Is that some kind of mod? If so, its certainly interesting idea and i love it!

Well, yes ... but also nope.

I have no problem with Larian implementation, breaking our Oath should have consequences ... even tho there are [Paladin] taged dialogue choices that goes directly against our Oath (deceiving those two Tieflings who have found Lae'zel) but dont break it ... and then there are perfectly normal situations that do (there was several examples on forum lately) ... so it certainly require some tuning.

BUT!

I still think we should get option to "just select Oathbreaker as a subclass" ... after all, our character dont start existing at character creation, and in curent system, IF we want to play Oathbreaker ... we are forced to play some dude, who uphold his oath for his whole life, until now, when he ruthlessly murder first inocents he meet for no reason at all. laugh
Kinda immersion breaking i would dare to say. laugh

I agree. Fall as paladin during game AND select at character creation should both be options. Also, there should be a separate option to become paladin of absolute.

Since there is several threats around here explaining why and how paladins dont have deity patrons ...

How exactly would you imagine "paladin of absolute"?
What kind of oath would they make?

I think for a paladin of the absolute, the oath of conquest would fit very snuggly. Their tenets: Douse the Flame of Hope. Rule with an Iron Fist. Strength Above All. Those sound like very fitting tenets for the Absolute. They're from Xanathar's Guide to Everything, but I figure if they're gonna do something so tied to the plot as making us a paladin of the main antagonist, then I'd say that would be worth the effort of bringing in an outside of PHB subclass.

I haven't really thought about it. I was just inspired by clip that @Gray Ghost shared about Warlock patron possibly changing. It seems like a thing that ought to be included.
