What kind of explosives you used?
If they leave fire surface behind and NPC steps into it (and believe me, they will) ... it and all its friend become hostile.
Personally i recomend Bombs, their Force damage makes no sense to me ... but they are clean.
I still dont understand why cant we change Race for our hirelings.
Lets us play Githyanki as racist as they trully are!
