One of the aspects of Taverns that BioWare kind of started to use was the "rumors" option to see if you could get some information at the bar. This is an old D&D aspect going back at least as far as Keep on the Borderlands. BioWare used it mostly for giving some info on the area news stories and once in a while some quest information, but a lot of that was really kind of superfluous because those things have other triggers anyway.

The things I would have liked to see in the tavern "rumors" would be tips on combat tactics and quest solutions! These tips could be embedded into local tales and folklore, so that they are not too blunt like the examples I am about to give. The ol' "gotta use fire or acid on trolls" is always a good tip, but there are so many other tips like how to avoid the winter wolf frost breath, beware the confusion power of the mushroom men, take the left-side path to sneak in to the enemy camp, a Ring of Shooting Stars is known to be lost in sea caves, the leprechauns may barter with kegs of pecan-flavored ale, there is an unusual collection of statues (i.e., petrified people) at the foot of the drawbridge, etc. I do not have BG III yet, is anything like this in the early release version?
