Given the context of this conversation being from the BG3 subreddit, I suspect that this was happening in a discussion about the possibility of a DOS2-style party lock at the end of act 1, something that the community has made it pretty clear to Larian that they absolutely don't want that to happen again.

Consider the differences between...

- DOS2 locking out content based on what party members were in your active party at the end of act 1

VS

- Pathfinder WotR locking out content based on your choice of mythic path

I don't think people are against the latter at all, because the entire game is clearly designed around it, it happens because of choices you make, and the game makes no effort to hide that it's meant to be that way from the start. It's when it's extremely half-assed like in DOS2, largely enforced by an arbitrary party limit and nothing to do with an actual choice most of all, that people take major issue with it.

Good comparison. I agree, when I played through wotr, I never thought "man, that sucks, I'm FORCED to choose a mythic path and miss out on all the unique quests/dialogue the other paths have" It was very much an exciting moment, because I got to choose how my character was viewed. Not to mention, the music that went with the mythic paths, the changes to the environment and dialogue depending on your choice, all reinforced how meaningful the choice was.

Playing through the game again has real meaning, as you can significantly change your experience, and it makes sense.
