Very flavorful character, cruel and despicable even.
Thank you, I have put a fair amount of thought into him since my first character in early access, especially how I could make him fit in any tabletop D&D group and give them a way to control and reign him in, actually part of his inspiration later on cam from Lucifer from the TV series netflix eventually saved. I wouldn't necessarily say he is a cruel person by nature, more that if something cruel and despicable needs doing he will do what he must and not loose sleep over it, just if it is the best option he will.
But Lawful does not seem to fit... Selfish character that has no care for laws and ready to kill whoever (children?) for money and also feels superior to everyone else is a classic Assassin type of character - Chaotic Evil. Being true to your word will not override "killer for hire". Plus - chaos is connected to freedom in DnD
I don't think chaotic evil fits very well either, to me that has always been the Joker archetype, mayhem and chaos for the fun and sake of it, the classic crazy psychopath that just wants to watch the world burn, again that isn't my character. He values order and stability. he won't necessarily go out of his way to break any laws but he also won't let them hold him back. They aren't his laws, but he will avoid unnecessary trouble. And as for the children that was an extreme example, he wouldn't like or enjoy doing it, but everything has a proice and if someone is willing to pay he is willing to do anything for the right price. In a good party he can be the necessary evil who does what is needed to save the day no matter how dirty his hands get.
I assume he would be very averse to slavery and value his freedom above all - so if forced with a decision "finish the job" or "avoid capture", he would break his word and bail.
Not so, when I say he would never break his word I mean it, when he agrees to a job he agrees to complete regardless of what unforeseen risks crop up, he would try to avoid being captured same as any situation but if it was the only way to complete the job he would do what was necessary then try to escape later. The only reason he would abandon the mission under those circumstances is if he learned he had been set up for capture by his employer, in which case he would abandon the mission and go looking for his employer again. Otherwise all risks are acceptable.
Ranger fits very well. Maybe altho he hates intelligent races but discovers that animals never lie, never betray, never kill unnecessarily. He strives to lead a lonely life with his animal companion, away from civilized races and filth of cities, without fear of getting stabbed in the back. Love for animals and nature will be at least something this kind of character may be "liked" for.
He isn't that type of ranger, his sub class will be hunter as i feel it fits better with him being a bounty hunter. He isn't that fond of the outdoors, it is to big. He spent most of his early life living underground so a big open sky is a little unnerving. Then Living as an urchin in a big busy city he got used to crowds and even prefers the hustle and bustle of a city as he can melt into a crowd and hide that way assassins creed style. He also will not have an animal companion as he doesn't like relying on anyone or anything else as every time has just led to trouble and problems. Also he is kinda bad with animals haha, one of the reasons I'm considering mook because at the minute is is basically just an archer and the shadow monk sounds cool and I think could fit really well, also the Open Hand can be a really good fit as the exacting specialist. Thill thinking on the eventual class but I am leaning more towards monk.
I do thank you for your in depth reply, i did enjoy reading it, I just wanted to clarify a few of my points as I may not have explained them properly in the first post leading to some confusion.
