The canon issue in BG3 is genuinely quite interesting. It's not like most game franchises where the canon just ended with the last game. The history of the setting has been progressing for roughly 20 years, and in-universe history has progressed for what, more than a century? Canon and how things unfolded have moved on outside of the games, and now BG3 has to deal with all that.
