So in my latest play-through (I hadn't played since Patch 8 came out, loving the Pallys so far), I realized just how many keys are in the game.

Two things. One... after a key is used for the lock that it is used for... it should just disappear from inventory. Why keep a slot for something you don't need anymore. Also, for keys that you still need, there should be a "key ring". One of my favorite games of all time Jagged Alliance 2 (albet with a community mod) had what was called a "key ring". This is a simple sub inventory icon that held all the keys you found in the world without it being in regular inventory.

You can see it next to the dollar icon in this screen shot in the link below.

Just a thought.

This is definitely a topic that’s popped up before, though not very recently. I do agree that key management in the game currently is poor, and it’s particularly annoying that we can never be sure whether we’ve failed to find the lock that matches a key or if, eg, we’d picked it before we found the key. Because of this, I don’t think it’s quite as simple as vanishing keys when they’re used, though I suppose they could vanish when the lock they open is unlocked/forced/destroyed. But a zero-weight key-ring that keeps keys out of the way would work for me.

I use one of the many pouches that can found lying around to store all the keys I find. Even if the key is in the pouch it will open the door and remain in the pouch afterwards unless you use a different party member to open the door. Aside from initially putting the key into the pouch no other management is required.

the issue is things in a bag don't exist as far as game code goes so you would have to take them all out to try one by one at each lock

this [doesn't exist] is part of the base code in every Larian game and has all sorts of bugs/ cheats linked to it

A key ring would indeed be a nice feature and make the inventory management at least a bit less annoying.

I created a mod that gives every characters 4 unique bags for consummables.

Icons are not very appropriate but I picked what I found in the game files (I don't have any skills to design new icons).
Far from being perfect and you still have to manage items, but at least you can sort them.

There was a mod like that for Dos2. Helped keep things more organised.

I like to use a pouch i find on the ground, I got one for keys, 1 for shiny stuff and 1 for things i deem important enough to have them in there

My Name is Regulator and im a Hoarder in the lands of Faerûn.

how much stuff is to much stuff, because its certainly not enough stuff.

No this is incorrect currently. I just re-tested this to confirm. Currently if you have a key stored in a pouch you can unlock a chest or door just by having your character try to open it. It is not necessary to open the pouch or remove the key from the pouch beforehand. After you open the chest or door the key will remain in the pouch. If a party member who does not possess the pouch attempts to open the chest or door then the "magic pockets" kicks in. Again it is not necessary to remove the key from the pouch, but in this case after the chest or door is open the key will be in the possession of the party member who opened the chest or door and is no longer in the pouch.

So a pouch will currently act as a "keyring" of sorts though who is to say if the functionality will remain on final release.

Also you can directly drink potions stored in a pouch by opening the pouch and selecting it or if you have the potions in the pouch but also attached to the hotbar you can drink them from the hotbar without opening the pouch.

Whether all pouches have this functionality I cannot say as I didn't test them all. Any I have found and used do work however. The one I used for the test today is the one found with the spider egg contained within.
