I was dubious about the strategy of revealing antagonists, but actually I'm intrigued by Gortash. Someone who is insinuating themselves into the power structure of a city but has secret dark motives and possibly fascistic tendencies (I'm extrapolating from the noose and mechanical soldier) perhaps isn't the most original premise, but still has lots of potential if done well and with a novel twist.
As to whether this teaser will bring new folk to the game I have no idea. I'd guess that anyone interested enough in games to watch Summer Game Fest probably also, for example, reads most anticipated games of 2023 lists and so already has a good idea of what BG3 is so this is more about giving a vibe and whetting appetites than anything else. Unlike the release date trailer, It certainly wouldn't give anyone any idea of what gameplay is like, which I'd have thought would be something Larian would want to do.
But as I already know what gameplay is like, I enjoyed this look at Baldur's Gate and spotting some structures I recognised from BG1 and it got me even more excited to go back and see what's the same or different after a century away. I thought the golem or construct or whatever it was looked pretty cool. And I'm a lot more enthusiastic about finding out more about Gortash, who is clearly going to be excellently voice acted, than I expected to be. But not about his hair. The rest of the character model I'm absolutely fine with but I think that hairstyle is dreadful!
