I think there are lots of echoes of BG1 in what we've seen of BG3 so far, but as long as they remain echoes rather than rehashes I think that can be a positive. For those of us who recall BG1 it gives us some fun parallels to ponder, and of course those who don't won't care. Of course, taken to an extreme it would make the game derivative, but I'm not yet seeing enough similarity to worry me on that front (and I'm one of the folk who found the call-backs in The Force Awakens way too heavy-handed).

As an aside, I'm not sure I ever understood exactly what was going on with those doppelgangers and why they were allied with Sarevok. The whole Iron Throne stuff made sense to me up to that point and was a fun plot to uncover, and discovering individuals have been replaced by duplicates is a well-worn classic for a reason, but I either never understood or have forgotten exactly what the point of it all was from the doppelgangers' perspective!
