Hi,
The game terminated, when you try to save it (F5 or Save).
The issue is in the "my document".
Windows 11 save link to "my document" in two places in registry, and when you switch the location (for example, move your documents to disk D), you can have this problem, because Windows 11 update only one record in Registry:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders
keys:
{24D89E24-2F19-4534-9DDE-6A6671FBB8FE}
Personal

When both locations will be is the same, the issue will be solved.

when you move my documents anywhere you have to update links to move the old files so the exe knows where to look... the version of Windows doesn't matter

Hi,
I know this, but i didn't save any part of the game in the my documents.
I created a character.
The game starts the first location, created the first save near dead illitid.
Then i had a but, from time to time i can create a save, but i can't load it, until i found this my document issue.
Now all is fine.
The differences between win 11 and 7, 8 (i didn't check 10), the previous versions we had a single record for my document.
Regards

yes it was a single location until Microsoft changed it to push people onto using skydrive / onedrive... now you can have upto 3 without even knowing things got moved around

gratz on getting your game running again

It's super frustrating when tech hiccups like this pop up, and your solution could save others a lot of headaches.

Okay gang I am confused. BG3 does not put the saves in the "Documents" folder, it defaults to the path below:

C:\\Users\\[username]\\AppData\\Local\\Larian Studios\\Baldur's Gate 3\\PlayerProfiles\\Public\\Savegames\\

Earlier versions of the game up until patch 3 stored saves in Documents, so there may be remnant files from then laying around if they've had the game since early EA. However, they would not do anything one way or another, so removing them would not fix anything. Only if the game also is of an older version.

They're also stored under '$HOME/Documents/Larian Studios/Baldur's Gate 3/PlayerProfiles/Public/Savegames/' on Mac
