still, i think riftrunner won't be what DAD is looking for; character with fleshed out history/background. maybe the only thing we get is that the character is one of the council members for the divine one.

The first question that comes to the mind for the runner, escape from the rift and go where? Is there any place of preference?

The linear beginning and the runes quest is a very clever investment of the divinity engine, the graphics of bookcases and the effort spent in a rune transliterater.
So rather than giving us direct clues Larian Studios decided to complicate the difficulty level by encoding the clues in rune script and created a quest for the decoder.

Yet <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/riftrunner.gif" alt="" /> is not just strictly an investment but a research field for new enhancements.
It looks more like an engine beta test before developing the BIG Divinity II.

That is why my suggestions for <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/riftrunner.gif" alt="" /> do not necessarily have to be implemented in <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/riftrunner.gif" alt="" /> and could be a consideration while developing Divinity II.

The game idea of <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/riftrunner.gif" alt="" /> has no place for a starting home, yet it is quite assumed because the servant of the Divine is a member of the order of the Divine, which must somehow must have places, clerics etcetera and they form a sort of reference for the character.

<img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/riftrunner.gif" alt="" /> is basically a struggle because the computer based algorithms include code to work on detaining the player inside the rift, while the player has to solve the quests to escape that rift. The problem is that a reputation system means zilch for an unknown fugitive bound to a sort of foe. Reputation among who or what? Which NPCs are going to care and change their reaction according to the hero’s reputation? Why should they care? How would they know? Here comes in the storyline because without a seriously good one this game shall fall. The keyword is Consistency because any logical contradictions shall be very harmful for the game-play.

Cheers.
