Am i the only one who is slightly anoyed that Larian is spreading tidbits all over internet, rather than repost everything everywhere? :-/
I didn't want to start a whine over it, but when I spotted this elsewhere I couldn't help but think "Damn, they REALLY don't want to post stuff on their own forum, uh?"
Well, apparently I'm not the only one either ...
Anyway, while I was on TikTok, I looked at the past couple of, uh ... TikToks they released there. I considered making a new thread as this is not Dragonborn related, but I decided this would be a short aside.
The post just before the Dragonborn preview is titled "
It’s important to exercise your little guys.". It's about a Necromancer and their army of zombies. It informed me of two things.
1) In the full release version of the game, we might be able to have our Wizards wear more interesting clothes than the
green bathrobes we've been stuck with so far (unless you stole Gale's blue bathrobe).
2) Larian seems to be fully embracing the fact that, for those choosing to go for a summoner playstyle, this will mean having your character followed by a shapeless mass of summons.
I've shared a couple of times my worry that, with BG3's less-than-stellar party controls, and in particular the absence of party formations, the fun of the concept of playing a summoner (be it a Wizard or a Druid) might held back significantly.
I mean, one the points of having an army of disposable bodies is that your squishy spellcaster can be protected by a good frontline, one that is quite hard to go around if your number of summons is significant. If your
frontline starts combats at the
back, instead of the
front, it's quickly much less efficient.
My initial thought was that, if Larian chose to bring no improvements on the party controls, they might quite possibly choose to not implement the Shepherd Druid and the Necromancer Wizard. And to not implement spells like Animate Dead or Conjure Animals. We now know that Animate Dead and Conjure Elemental weren't cut. So I'm now mostly expecting Conjure Animals and many of its Conjure This/Summon That cousins to make it.
My next thought was that Larian might choose not to put the spotlight on the summoner playstyle. In order to avoid showcasing the lack of party formations, and overall the difficulty of controling large groups.
Turns out, they are happy to put the spotlight on summoners being followed, approximately well, by a disorganised mass of summons. Which probably means Larian is perfectly happy with their party controls. Which probably means it won't be improved. It's not that I was particularly hoping or expecting improvement on this frequently brought up aspect, but still, this made me re-adjust my expecations/hopes for this to one notch lower.
