It's all good - everything is relative anyways.

There's one thing I found very strange in the release announcement: Karlach was confirmed as a new origin character, and Halsin, Jaheira, Minsc, and Minthara were confirmed as companions.

No mention of Barcus - or did I miss something?

If Barcus is a companion, but no origin character, why wasn't he listed as well?

Since the big surprise of the preponed full release, I wouldn"t completely rule out that there aren't more surprises. Respectively more companions or origins.

Personally, I'm very happy with the companions we've got so far or who have already been confirmed (yes, I think I like some drama), but I would wish for more "less flawed" characters to be added for those players who would prefer this.
It would be nice if everybody had a choice of companions they like or find interesting.

I'm also super curious about the status of Barcus.

I don't think there's a PFH I've looked forward to more.

Well then our opinions differ, I want to know, what motivation the character has, what moral code/ philosophy. What good does it, if you know the character is a dragonborn serial killer sorcerer. If that's enough for you, then that's ok, I'm more interested, if it means another chaotic evil guy or if he was controlled and is good aligned. ( I still want Helia over that, but that doesn't seem to be an option anymore).

Funny outgone would be if Boo was a modifid tadpole all the time, who had lost her power and now has regained it over all the years. For convenience, she doesn't even need to necessarily take possession of Minsc, since he was also so easily influenced. Now she dismantles her illusion or replaces her hamster body (by a hireling?) to go into battle at the side of her faithful protector Minsc. Boos real name is Peter Pettigrew.

Didn't they say, that there will be some more non origin characters, that won't be teased before release? I would love to have Barcus as a companion.

You have spoiled it now. Boo is the Absolute.

I expect in the full game it will be possible to hire mercenaries for people who want boring companions.

But is there any reason to suppose Barcus isn't just an NPC? Sometimes a gnome is just a gnome.

Did Larian at any point confirm that those were all Companions?

It's the same for me, I am very excited.

There is one thing I could think of why Barcus wasn't mentioned. Could Barcus be an artificer, and adding this class could be another surprise?

One thing that could be said against this is that the automatons in the trailer seemed to be a great innovation. If there were many artificers who could build something like that, the automatons wouldn't be that special anymore.

If I remember correctly, Barcus did no artificier stuff. All he did was being an absolute disaster...

Artificer will be DLC.

They didn't explicitly state that, but I was just wondering, because, like Halsin, we have already met him, and he was in our camp.

But now that I think of it, Volo hadn't been listed, too.


Fighting an evil overlord who is cute and fluffy would raise the difficulty level considerably 😂

He is just a camp follower ... just as talkative skeleton, volo, scratch, or owlbear cup ...

After all, as Barcus himself admit ... he is terrible adventurer.
I wonder more about Netie, or Alfira ... i feel like there is some potential to take them both with us ... at very least as Mercenaries, if not followers.

It's possible he is in the camp because he is involved in crafting in some way. It's been done before in the Dragon Age games.
