I don't really remember Beast, but leader of a rebellion doesn't sound as 'normal' as Eder. Eder was the most average Joe character in a game I've ever seen. There was nothing grand about him and even his personal quest had no big heroic in it in either of the 2 games. Not even a clear cut 'good vs evil' ending, but just something human - what people might experience themselves. That is the reason Eder was beloved. No second was wasted in making him great, he was just someone swept up in the current of events and doing his part. He was no leader, no chosen, no hero, no black ops, no mage/priest/sage/... he was just a guy and even managed to stay true to this til the end. By far one of the most memorable companions in video games and definitely not the type of guy Larian writes.
