OK, goblin is my least favorite race, but at least a small one. Still sad about Helia. Maybe she will still make an appearance as camp follower. Well, it's not clear that it's actually a goblin (you create the current host, who can be any race or class), and it's not available as a companion. PC only. Although I guess it will turn up as an adversary in any case. OK, I can't watch right now. Does that mean, goblin is a selectable Race? No mention, and actually no mention of the goblin that seemed to be controlling the Dark Urge (i've had the stream muted sometimes though)

No. you can select "The Dark Urge" as a PC origin and create a character as normal, as if you where making a Tav. As you play the game, The Dark Urge tries to control your character, but you can try and resist. Presumably the exact nature of the Dark Urge is something you will gradually uncover if you choose that Origin. It's like selecting a permanent psychic companion. It's like playing as Regan in the Exorcist. It appeared as a goblin in Blood in Baldur's Gate is all. Doesn't mean it actually is a goblin.

I wonder if we will be able to pick Vampire background ... Vampire - Dark Urge ...
In that case, this odd goblin person would work just as my Inner Beast. >:]
I still dont understand why cant we change Race for our hirelings. Lets us play Githyanki as racist as they trully are!

I am very disappointment by the announcement of the Dark Urge - first and foremost, it’s not a companion, so our party composition just doesn’t look very appealing especially as Origins are concerned. That also leaves good aligned parties very lacking, with two Druids to content with. Good thing they abandoned party lock, but now I think it is reaction to lackluster companions, rather than “listening to the community”.
That also means quite a low variety of races and classes in parties.
On a positive side, Dark Urge could mean a custom protagonist with some personality or story to it.

I would have loved Dark Urge as a companion. A pity. But I can live with that. That way I can make a slightly less evil party * for a more neutralish run. The game looks great, though. * I can see my drow sorcerer, Astarion and Shadowheart making the core of the party. The 4th one will be rotational, I guess.

I'm not particularly interested in playing the Dark Urge, but I think it's really neat to be able to play a character with an added narrative layer. It's like having a second background called Serial Killer.
I do wish it had been an additional companion though.

I admit I did not dare to watch much of the life stream due to spoilers.
Can Dark Urge be any race/class?

Can Dark Urge be any race/class? Yes to both Thanks. I have been thinking of making my drow a direct descendant of my BG2 character (my main being an elf and having an 'encounter' in the Ust Natha brothels). The fruit of this relationship might be more rotten than expected, lol. A lot of things to consider.

I like this. An actual origin for our character. This was a great ideal. It'll actually feel like our character is a part of the story, and not a generic random in the world.

I hated him in the first two games, I don't think, I will change my opinion about him in this game, so it is defacto Karlach, Jaheira (and I already expressed how I feel about recycling old characters, it's lazy) and Halsin.
