Saw your livestream today, Larian. Really excited about the 'The Dark Urge' Origin that was introduced! Even more thrilled about the fact that it provides players an option to generate fully customizable background with story effects that can be overlaid over your own custom character. This reveal holds a tremendous amount of promise.

I loved everything about the potential this customizable new origin option brings into the game, except one minor thing...Everything is customizable about this origin except the character's NAME. I noticed in the dialogue scenes when the Player Character with this Origin introduce themselves to NPCs, the dialogue lists the name as:

First Name: The
Second Name: Dark
Last Name: Urge

In my personal opinion, it is immersion breaking to introduce yourself to strangers by saying your name is literally 'The Dark Urge' when meeting someone for the first time. I recommend providing player's the option to use this wonderful background and also to customize the name of their character to something of their own preference, while maintaining the choice to keep 'The Dark Urge' Origin hidden when introducing themselves to strangers during game play and only advertise their true aspect to their trusted friends and close allies providing for an organic story flow.

But since part of Dark Urge is memory loss, how could you have any name? O_o

Maybe it's a name impanted in your mind? Otherwise it's a pretty common trope to have your name be the only thing you remember. But besides that, why would you call yourself The Dark Urge either? I think recalling or otherwise having a name is the less strange of the two options. I imagine that we actually will be able to change our name, it's just that they didn't bother to do it this time around for the PFH and that was the default name.

And i only roleplayed one character witht his, and she allways introduced herself as "nobody" ... since "You are useless, you are nobody!" was first thing they yelled at her after interrogation, when they find out that she dont remember anything.

You can. The Dark Urge is just the default name, like Tav.

What, you don't want to go around introducing yourself as Mr. The Dark Urge? Seems like a fine name to me.

Larian said you could marry some characters. I really hope there's a voiceline that allows you to refer to the couple as Mr. and Mrs. Urge. Or you can hyphenate.

I think Faurun is used to weird ass names.

I mean unless you were planning to open a daycare or start babysitting it's just not a problem.

Although now that i think about it that name would probably disqualify you for a number of careers...line cook, fruit inspector....

In the same vein as Sean Parker from the Social Network (2010) movie, I would much prefer if we just...Drop the The. Just "Dark Urge." It's cleaner.

Sure, however if I were to came out of a case of laser guided amnesia, and was suddenly subjected to an unexpected interrogation about the name I was issued at my birth, as a resident of the DND universe, I am more likely to respond with a poorly thought out answer like Chris/ Adahn/ Apple/ <Insert name of choice here> than 'The Dark Urge' which sounds like the response someone would employ to describe their inner state of being after grokking a lot of Jung. Then again, quoting the great bard Shakespeare...

I'm sure we'll have the option to change this character's name, it'd be absurd not to. If I had to guess Larian just went with the default "The Dark Urge" because they simply didn't bother changing it, or maybe to quickly spot the right saved game among the different files they had prepared for the PFH.

Not all that different from checking in at an inn as "Shadowheart".

Thank you for your comment 1varangian but...so what? Respectfully, I cannot fathom what your point might be considering that we are talking about character creation process behind the Dark Urge origin and not Shadowheart.

Just so you may divine the purpose of this thread, fellow enthusiast: The intent behind all this was so that I might be able to signal the good people at Larian to provide the option to change the name of the (in my personal opinion) most intriguing origin option, because based on the PFH, it appears the Origin in question is customizable in almost every way except one key area i.e. the moniker my PC will be able to adopt.

A quick perusal of the other responses thread should have it obvious to you that there are other players who care about this and feel such an option would be a given. I, however, don't believe in leaving such things to the whims of fate, hence I acted to try and let this float to Larian's awareness to see if I can generate a favourable response.

If you would you like to continue to check into inns as Shadowheart/ The Dark Urge/ <Insert Epithet of choice here>, please do not feel like I am standing in the way of thy desire. I speak for those who have a different kind of Urge in mind.

I thought, it was confirmed that you could rename Mr. or Mrs. Urge?

If you have a trusted source (Panel From Hell time stamp/ Developer Team Quote) confirming that you may rename the Dark Urge Origin, then this query can be put to finally to rest...but until then one must relegate this wish to the domain of hopes & dreams.
