The National Day is called Bastille Day because the prison of Bastille which was a symbol of the power of the king, was taken on the 14th of july.
I talked about it in my previous posts at the beginning of the topic.
It is also the National Day for French Guiana, French Polynesia, New Caledonia, Mayotte, Guadeloupe, Martinique, because all these territories are parts of France.
