They did say in the stream that you stand to gain much power by following the dark urge but that you may be left alone in the end. They also said that it will be a very different experience to reach the city of Baldur's gate very powerful but alone vs reaching it less powerful but with many friends and allies.
Oh, so it's their way of adding a solo playthrough that's balanced. Makes sense.
