Hearing does not exist as a skill, but can occur as an equipment bonus. I found it somewhat handy as an early warning system, though not really necessary since my strategy was the same for all opponents (whack them repeatedly with a long, sharp piece of metal).
'Spark' spell books can give you a level in Lightning or Elemental Strike (IIRC). You have to check the description that scrolls up the screen when you learn it, or check out your levels before and after.
