I've been hesitating a bit between posting this in General or Suggestions & Feedback. Assuming my question is answered the way I imagine it will, then this post is mostly Suggestions & Feedback.
In Patch 8, Larian introduced the Bard Class. In addition to all the mechanical features we can expect from a Bard (Proficiencies, Spellcasting, Bardic Inspiration, Jack Of All Trades, etc), Larian added the Perform Action. This allows you to play a song and draw the attention of nearby NPCs, as well as possibly earning a couple of coins from it.
In Patch 9, Larian introduced the Paladin Class. In addition to all the mechanical features we can expect from a Paladin (Proficiencies, Lay On Hands, Fighting Style, Spellcasting, Divine Smite, etc), Larian added the Oath mechanics. This means your Paladin has a mechanically-coded Oath code/tenets, and if you break this code, you'll receive the visit of Mr Oathbreaker and get to either become Oathbreaker or pay your way out.
My question, then, is the following :
what do the other Classes get ?If it turns out that the answer is "nothing", then my feedback would be that I am disappointed.
I'd feel this would be a case of Larian getting excited by the latest Class creations/implementations, giving them Extras, and not bothering going back to the earlier Classes to give them a corresponding Extra. (Not that this would be very surprising. We've seen with the Races, in terms of which of them are represented by some of the Companions, and in terms which of them gets additional body types, that Larian seems very happy with making their favourite choices more appealing, and implementing the rest just because they have to. So my disappointment would be quite limited.)
Assuming that some suggestions on this topic are remotely welcome and valuable, here are a couple ideas for Extras.
- Monk. Adapt the Bard's Perform action, and perform a Kata (like in Karate). Like for the Bard's Songs, there could be 3 Katas : one with a sword, one with a staff, one with no weapon. (Bonus : even if Larian doesn't do it, modders could unlock these Katas for Bards, so Valour and Swords Bard could show off their fighting techniques.)
- Wizard. Scribe spell scrolls ? Do research and modify spells (e.g. changing elemental type) ?
- Barbarian, Ranger, Druid. When camping, the character can go hunting-gathering. Roll a d20 to determine how much Food Supplies this brings back.
- Cleric, Druid. Perform rites. For instance, you could heal someone sick if you're a healy Cleric, or make a prayer for rain/no rain on behalf of a farmer. You could get paid or gain better attitudes as a result. (I know that the Cleric tag allows to say a few words for the dead if you meet Aradin in front of the Blighted Village, but I'm talking about something a bit more involved.)
