I do not mind the changes to stats. I would have prefered the original DnD rules though. In many cases you can chose the stats that your char would get by race. But if anyone can take any +2/+1 bonus I see no reason to take a human (unless they get a feat).
Now the toadpole seems to be a huge change.
When I played EA for the first time I absolutely avoided using the toadpole. Because being turned into a mindflayer or being manipulated by an unknown entety sounds really bad. So I never met the daisy in the dream and I did not get powers.
I have no idea what this "guardian" is. But putting several of these toadpoles into my head sounds like a really bad idea. In EA many mayor quests are about getting this thing out of our heads, not getting more of them in.
Lets put it that way: If the good ending requires you not to use toadpole powers and get rid of these things while the evil path gives you a whole skill tree full of powerful feats then they made a really big incentive to be evil
