That's not what I said even if you paraphrase it. I fully intend to have a custom rogue in my party, I wouldn't mind having it from the start. But I don't need it, you got that part right. I pointed out his intel was faulty, there is a possibility to start the game with a full custom party, "janky" though it is. And there's a fully acceptable alternative if you can stomach not having a full party until roughly how far into the game you would normally get a full party.
Now if the hirelings aren't fully customizable, then sure, feel free to be up in arms. I'll be right there with you. But we don't know that they aren't? They said in the panel there was 1 for each class, but they also said you could have a "full barbarian" party which somewhat contradicts that one restriction.
