Honestly the hirelings are.. baffling to me. Its one of these thigns where Larian just keeps... pulling stuff that is kind of indefensible. Its not terrible, i wont be using them. But its one of these things that makes it impossible to talk about the game in public forums because people will just point to these dumb descisions and say larian is insane.
For what purpose would you have predefined characters that have no personality anyway? Just let the player make their own companions it worked in divinity, it worked in pathfinder, who the hell wants a "custom" party ofl.... predefined characters. its like picking the standard party members in Icewind Dale, who ever did that? not one person im sure. Not even to feed them to The Dark Urge? Gonna be tricky to explain to Withers what happened to the last Hirelings you employed. "They changed careers"

Yes it's not THAT bad. It's one additional option offered, that was not there before. If the option wasn't there then we would not talk about additionnal allies. So why having more is a problem? Maybe some hardcore players will obsess over it, but that's far from being a big issue. If you don't like it you don't use it. I don't know why so many people feel that they have to do an elaborated list of comments and feedbacks about everything. Larian Studios tried their best and have to think about all kind of players. You will never like everything they do. My main point is more about what I love in their game, that if there is some weird things. And oh my, I love so many things in this EPIC game !!

Nah. having custom companions optionally is a staple of RPGs, the previous Larian game has it, both Owlcat games have it. IWD of course had it. ToEE had it. NWN2 got it on the second DLC etc.
Making your own party should be a no brainer considering you can always do it using an exploit anyway.
