I like the Icewind Dale setting, but, and I’ve said this before, Planescape! That would perfectly match Larian’s sensibility and design philosophy.
This. Unfortunately the Planescape setting is utterly dead but letting Larian have a go at it has the potential to be brilliant. They can do things as dark as they like and still have all the room in the world for wacky fun. The only real problem, aside from getting permission from WOTC, is creating a protagonist that doesn't feel like a letdown after TNO and thematic music that doesn't suffer when compared with the nostalgia factor of PST music. And NPCs that can stand up to Morte and Dakkon.
The planescape setting is one of the old settings WotC very recently revived with much fanfare, so it's not dead, at least not anymore. And since I never cared for the old planescape game and have long considered it--along with its main writer--to be highly overrated, I'd be fine with Larian taking it on. In fact, given my complete lack of expectations for that franchise, I'd even be free to enjoy Larian's game for what it is, whatever that may be.
Btw, the story is that Beamdog was working on a Ps:T sequel a few years ago before WotC canceled that project. Certainly dodged a bullet there as Beamdog totally sucks.
