Love it, especially your reasoning for Wood Elf! I think my Abserd will be a gnome, just because it feels like a better fit to me, and I'd want to take a martial class early for heavy armor proficiency.
Focusing on skills makes the most sense, definitely, and for that I'd dump CON in favor of DEX
