You are absolutely right about the Githzerai, but sadly not just they are the „missing ones”!
Besides even if you play as a Githyanki, Lae'zel or the other Gith characters doesn't really acting toward to the M.C. as you are one of them... (at least that was the situation in the E.A. version which I played) So the M.C. in this way is already more like a Githzerai than a Githyanki, even from this view is more logical if they put the Githzerai in the game.
In one of my older comment, I mentioned the Duergars and the Aasimars are also completely (and from my view, totally illogically) missing from the playable races. From planetouched races the Tieflings already in the game so it would be logical if you can play as the Aasimar as well. Top of that the Duergars are already in the game but only as NPCs, and can’t be choose as a playable subrace of the dwarves.
(Not to mention that they messed the whole Elven race as it is: the Drow is a subrace of the Elves and I don't get where that "Highelf" thinking came from but the most common elven subraces in Faerun is the Moon Elves, and the Sun Elves the Highelf is a collectivenoun of the Seldarine Elven races)
It would be really great if Larian Studios already hear the players ideas and finally correct and expand the game's character creation part!
