Another game I play is Lord of the Rings Online - it might interest folks to know that they were actually one of the pioneers of cosmetic outfit systems, long before WoW or other MMOs picked up that option in their own ways (WoW introduced their transmog system in late 2011 - LotROs cosmetic wardrobe was presented in 2008). The way it works is that you simply have a second 'tab' (and a 3rd, 4th, 5th.... 11th, 12th if you want them), that hides behind your gear panel, and you can choose with a click or keybind which visual appearance to display, from the outfits you've set up. When you put a piece of equipment into a cosmetic slot, it doesn't actually put the gear there - just takes a blank visual clone of the weapon or armour to sit in the cosmetic slot and drops the original back in your inventory, so you can use the same pair of boots in multiple outfits if you want, and so on. It's a pretty flexible system, and doesn't require you to give up one look for another, or consume/destroy gear just to keep a look you really like.

If we're going to have a cosmetic system at all, I'd really like something inspired along those lines.
