That's a strong reaction. Why? What's wrong with the source?

If you have trouble pronouncing his name, you simians may refer to him simply as 'sir', for a less syllable intensive workout.
This is fun, where do you get this from?
Fear my wrath, for it is great indeed.

That's a strong reaction. Why? What's wrong with the source? Sarevok is turned into a drug addict who becomes a worshipper of Bhaal so fuck you if you managed to change him. Imoen is a vampire because... because she is, fuck you. Irencius and Bodhi are alive because you can't leave things well enough alone, gotta bring back Vader/Vaas/Davy Jones/Whoever the fuck is popular in given franchise because you have no originality left!! Viconia is still a 1-d Shar worshipper. Really the only part that was actually fitting and funny was Montatron and Xzar. Fuck the rest of this shit. Fuck Abdel! Fuck the Novels!!

Edwin always reminds me of Microsoft... very powerful but not much of a clue i did like how Beamdog replaced Dynaheir with Neera as a rival
Luke Skywalker: I don't, I don't believe it. Yoda: That is why you failed.

That's a strong reaction. Why? What's wrong with the source? There's a lot of good stuff about it, good resource to run a campaign. Well written in a number of admirable ways..... if you have never played the first two games and/or don't really care about continuity or lore. Anyone remember Phaere, the priestess of Lolth who was antagonist in the drow city of Ust Natha in BG II? Or her brother, the archwizard Malavon-who revolted against his house and led a heretical coup that overthrew the church of Lolth in the city of Rilauven? The latter is (metaphorically) crashing on his sister's couch in Ust Natha. Confirmed heretic and rebel that cost his house control of an entire city. Just chillin in a Lolthite city. That's the sort of 'small details' it gets wrong. How it treats major characters is somehow even worse. Like Valygar using magic to prolong his youth and longevity, basically in stark contrast to his characterization from the game. Or how Bodhi and Irenicus are both still alive and in Ravenloft, but still pulling strings on Toril. It also attempted to be LGBTQ inclusive, but had some pretty piss-poor execution in that regard, IMO. For example IIRC Xan was retconned into being a Blessed of Corellon all along who constantly changes gender according to their 'mercurial' whims. So it managed to turn gender identity into a 'wacky gimmick' while also being kinda sexist. That's the sort of bar it sets. Intentions might have been good there with greater representation, but that only goes so far with me personally when the execution is so poor and the characters are so mishandled that it wraps around to pissing me off.

This is fun, where do you get this from? Minsc and Boos Journal of Villainy Pg 114. It was written in 2021. Larian is not obligated to follow this source, but it would certainly be an interesting twist.

Yep, I'm not a fan of the novels either, I firmly ignore this Abdel Whathisface guy, because of course he isn't Gorions ward. That would be a female halfelf rogue/mage in my case and numerous others for other player. They did the same crap with Revan from Kotor, who was a lightsided asian female in my game and turned out to be a white male nutjob canonically. And retconning established stories, just to use the characters again, is lazy storytelling.

Yep, I'm not a fan of the novels either, I firmly ignore this Abdel Whathisface guy Luckily, BG3 is set right after Abdel Adrien's death. And retconning established stories, just to use the characters again, is lazy storytelling. Agreed. The sequels didn't happen. It ended when the second Death Star blew up. Any excuse to see Edwin, though. Too much of a fanboy, I guess; but he never really did have much of a story in the games. Aside from not liking Dynaheir and some Nether Scroll shenanigans; he was just a goofy Wizard, but the best Wizard by a mile. He was fun.

Rodeolifant: Revan was Old Republic, so long before the movies. They used that character ( that like Gorions Ward was fully customizable) in books and in the MMO SWTOR and suddenly it was canonically a white male, not quite right in the head. And I actually preferred Dynaheir to Edwin, I just did get rid of Minsc, because I didn't want him in the party.
I used Edwin in BG2 though.

I used Edwin in BG2 though. Slight correction: Revan was canonically always intended as a male character, even the D20 Star Wars system that predates the MMO has him as a male. Just as the Jedi exile is canonically female, which didn't stop me from making her a white male in my playthroughs of KotOR 2. In regard to Edwin: I always used him in BG 1 because I liked his portrait. Of course I changed his alignment with a trainer/cheat program to make him compatible with my usual characters

I'm generally against making customizable player characters canonically anything, just leave them alone.

Also, blame his later appearances on the KotOR fans who demanded Revan's appearance in SWTOR. It would have been extremely stupid of BioWare to not have him appear at all, so they would have to give him a specific appearance anyway. Regarding the sequels... they don't exist. They were never made and we don't talk about them. Or in other words they make Highlander 2 seem like a good movie in comparison

Most of the people, I talk about that topic, are mad about not-really-Revan in books and SWTOR.

If this game DARES to even mention his name or make it impossible for Gorion's Ward to be Dwarf Fighter/Cleric to me it is fanfiction or playing through the absolute WORST timeline where that disappointment Abdel was born who made all the worst decisions like the mistake of Bhaal he is and ended up murdered like a total bitch. We are not playing through our timelines, we are playing through Abdel's and that's how we should treat it.

I'm sort of afraid of asking Minsc/Jaheira for any details about their past, because I assume I'll hear a bunch of crap about this Abdel guy who definitely does not exist. Fortunately I got a lot of practice ignoring not!Revan in SWTOR - I can apply that here as well.
