I've always hated this argument. It's freaking magic, it is doing its job to translate the way an animal thinks into something comprehensible to a humanoids mind.
You mentioned speak with the dead, which I am guessing you have no problem using with dead humanoids who don't speak common but communicate telepathically, like mind flayers, what about other living beings that don't speak common? Maybe I'm wrong and maybe you are frustrated that people can communicate with each other in a video game, and you don't want anything in the underdark to be able to talk to you, but geez it is a really petty complaint.
