They get polearm proficiency. So they have an advantage in gish builds
I'm not sure there are any gish builds that either A. use strength as their primary attribute or B. don't have access to martial weapons.
If kept as-is, shield dwarf worlock is pretty gishy. They get their charisma to hit and damage, dwarf gives them proficiency in medium armor and battle axe. Max 3 spells per short rest but you get other spells as well. Decent gish material.
