Join the Helia fanclub, we are few, but we are determined. And I agree, I would have loved to have Helia, the halfling werewolf bard, as a companion. I mean, Fextra mentioned in one of his last videos, that there is teh possibility of one or two more companions, so we can maybe stay hopeful, that Helia only was degraded from origin to normal companion. I know, the chances are slim, but one can hope.

Please elaborate on who Helia is (I need all the help I can get in filling all 3 spots in my party if we can't create custom hirelings!)? Can't seem to find anything about her. pretty sure she was not in BG1 og Bg2...

Yet, if there were no Halsin, what muscular man is there to thirst over? Astarion is not top-passing. I want to collect Halsin, Karlach and this Helia to defeat my enemies through sheer thirst. Imagine the potential of the thirst trap combined with a storm sorc

No Helia was a datamined orign character for BG3. She was a halfling bard, who is also a werewolf. There were already recorded voicelines. But now the last origin spot was taken by Durge (The Dark Urge) and Halsin and Minthara became companions by public demand. SO it looks, as if Helia was scratched. But then Fextra mentioned in one of his videos, that it is possible, that we will get another one or two characters and my hope is, that Helia might make a comeback as a regular companion, because frankly, she just sounds to cool to be scratched.

Seems like a pretty good character yes.... I am already at 4/5... and we DO need a bard. And I could imagine that a werewolf would not be very fond of a certain vampire..... so that could be the beginning of an epic showdown. My money is on Helia!

I would love to see Helia, but I would also like a change to open up Jaheira for romance if only because I romanced her in BG2, and it would be really cool to do the same romance in BG3. I'm also curious if there are other characters we haven't heard of possibly locked away as future companions. I keep hearing Alfira mentioned on Reddit but I don't really see it.

It actually wouldn't surprise me at all if Halsin gets to be revealed as a werebear.

I don't think, there is any rivalry between vampires and werewolfs in DnD, I could be wrong though.

Yeah, it could be. I find it strange, that he seems to sometimes not have control over his wild shape and I'm not talking just about THAT scene. There is one in EA, where he kills the goblin kids as a bear, something, I don't think, Halsin in full control would do, even though tehy threw stones at him.

But I still hope, he is just a tad bit incompetent and we get our werwolf halfling bard.

I have no idea what DnD says about werewolves and vampires! 😅 juuust have a gut feeling that Helia doesn't like Astarion 😅 I mean we have: Lae'zel vs Shadowheart, Wyll vs Karlach, Halsin vs Minthara. Some one needs to step up against bat boy!

He rarely gets to kill them in my playthroughs... they are goblins and therefore vermin, so I kill them. Every time. Even with a paladin.

But back on the topic of Halsin:

It's actual because of THAT scene, that I suspect he's werebear. I find it hard to believe that a druid would enter wildshape when they lose control, that is definitely more fitting for a werecreature. And of course Halsin's body is rather extreme for an ordinary elf wink

Most Tavs are very protective of the Bat Boy, the person most likely to start picking fights with him would be either Urge or that disgusting Gur.

Only way I could see myself killing him would be on an evil playthrough, just use him until he introduces me to Cazador for Vampirism then kill them both...

For myself I really enjoy all the characters - I am most excited about:

Karlach because she seems like she has a compelling story to tell and she acts like someone who has a new lease on life and wants to not waste a moment of it.

Shadowheart because I think she did something very drastic to save the world, and her backstory may be completely insane. The courage it must have taken to give up your own memories to go on a life or death mission.

Astarion because of his really inappropriate sense of humor informed by his own past suffering.

Gale I have the most trouble with because I don't think he is being honest about a lot of stuff, maybe even to himself.

The problem is that Larian wrote characters with their own internal locus of control and motivations and I think many players have been spoiled by gaming companies that have presented characters that base their existence around you.

With these characters there is an equality to the interactions that to some must be jarring. There is a larger conversation here where I would point the finger at these AAA studios who have created games that pander too much to gamer whims instead of challenging them properly. They create unrealistic characters - I wonder if that has an effect on how they interact with people irl and the ability to form friendships.

I spent over a hundred hours in the first months of EA, but have since taken a LOOOONG break intentionally so I could have a fresh experience on launch. This is the first time I've been back on the forums and it is kind of disheartening to see this thread as this is the main beef I had with the game in early access.

I think the issue I have comes down to most of the companions being more gimmick with not much going on in terms of interesting character. Astarion is a good example... he's a noble fop AND an elf AND a vampire! ooh... edgy! I think Larian spent more time worrying about how "cool" the characters looked and less about crafting interesting people I might want to hang around for 70 or so hours... Honestly the more mundane the companions of the bunch are probably the best, Gale and even Shadowheart after the early fixes. No friendly halfling rogues? No gruff but loveable dwarven fighters? I'm not asking for a collection of fantasy tropes necessarily, but a cast of lovable, fun misfits would be nice? Less Suicide Squad, more Guardians of the Galaxy?

I really like most of the rest of the game, and with it being so customizable most if not all systemic gripes should be pretty fixable, but this is one that feels unavoidable...

The thing I've heard from people that have actually played the game is that on act 2 and onwards characters and your relation with them changes a lot.

And in case you don't know there's also hirelings now, wich is also a hot topic right now because they lack the customization people expected.

Also if you really dislike companion there's also a new origin called Dark Urge and I don't think you'll have many companions if you don't mind ''evil'' playthroughs xD

It gets good after 20+ hours? Oof... not a selling point for me.

Been reading about hirelings... so far they look like a bunch of more of the same overly gimmicky.

Dark Urge and Kerlach are TOTAL turn offs to me... more edge lord... "ooh we're EEEEVIL" stuff... no interest.

On the good news front Minsc is back (hopefully with his miniature giant space hamster boo in tow) and Jeheira... more of this please.

Mmmm, maybe you can play Tav, Halsing, Jaheira and Minsk. There's also rumours of another 1-2 extra companions (non-origin) but we know nothing about that.
