and planning to succumb to said Dark Urge:
What class will you be picking and why?
I'm torn between Monk and Paladin. Given that we've been hinted that the Dark Urge will likely end up alone, a class with self-sustain is probably ideal.
However, I could see other classes working, especially if we have a party till we're higher in level, giving us time to build up to being self-sufficient well before something happens that causes it. Wizards, clerics, druids, all quite strong at higher levels.
I'm curious what your thoughts are!

Probably a barbarian, it fits well with the theme of losing control.

the better question is are you going to lean into your dark urges? yes = play alone no = play as a group
a group Pally has the edge but a Sorcerer/ Bard could be good... single player Monk
Luke Skywalker: I don't, I don't believe it. Yoda: That is why you failed.

I am seriously considering the dark urge for my first playthrough as I am far more inclined to walk the darker paths first. But I will try to keep at least some companions alive...at least Shadowheart and Minthara. But for class I think Paladin is a bad choice unless you intentionally plan to become an oathbreaker as following the dark urge will almost certainly land you as an oathbreaker.
For class I plan to first play as a Warlock as I want a charisma driven character so I can have large bonuses in all charisma based speech checks and I am interested in seeing what interactions a warlock can have with his patron.

If I get around to doing a Dark Urge play through I will probably create goody-two shoes Paladin, with potential to become fallen one, if dark urge is compelling enough.

I will make a solo playthrough where I kill everyone when it is conveniant, and increase my power as far as I can with their tadpoles.
It will be a Gloomstalker 8/ Assassin 4, and Deep Gnome, probably. I think that combines very nicely with the invisibility you get after killing from the DU exclusive item.
Basically a stealth playthrough

Sorcerer because Wizard and Warlock have their respective Origin Characters, and Sorcerer is the most fun Mage class in my opinion.
Evil always finds a way.

My Durge will be a Spore Druid. Start out as your regular albeit urge-ridden Tav Druid, but slowly turn into a creepy, corruppted, witch.
Fear my wrath, for it is great indeed.

I'm curious what your thoughts are! Drow wild mage sorcerer. Although it's more of a lapse of control than a conscious choice in his case. I think I will try to keep a team around him, though. I like at least half of the companions. I can't say how successful that'd be.

I can't reasonably tell. By what has been reported, Bg3 will be an extremely item heavy game. There could be gloves that heal by hit, but need you to have heavy armour proficiency.
There could be an op light armour benefitting dex builds. There could be various items letting anyone cast defensive spells. You might be required to play duel wielding. Or with a two hander.
I'll do solo after finishing the game. Knowing encounters in advance and preparing a fitting build sounds more enjoyable.

I'm either going a Bard or a Monk, with various multiclasses worked in for efficiency. Waiting on answers to some questions before I commit to anything, and I want to play with the CC because I'm tempted to go dragonborn.

I’m going to do 2 DU playthroughs.
The first will be a monk who is going to do everything he can to resist the urges.
The second will be in a multiplayer game. My friends don’t know anything about BG3, so they don’t know the DU exists. I’m going to play Dark Urge and lean into it hard and say nothing to them and let them figure out on their own that something is amiss. There will be a clue though- I’m going to recreate the necromancer villain from a table top campaign I ran for them, so as soon as they see my character and read his name they will be immediately suspicious of me. It’s gonna be a blast.

I just noticed this short interview about Durge has been published by Larian on Twitter. It might be coming to other places soon, but as I hadn't seen any one mention it here yet thought I'd pop in a link. Not that there's anything really new or surprising, beyond what we've already heard, but still worth a watch I reckon: https://twitter.com/baldursgate3/status/1681333066692714498?s=20

I'll play one eventually and will do my best to resist at least when it comes to companions and animals. Might not make it too different from a Tav playthrough though. But I would give in if I thought the target deserved it.

It seems like the amnesia and customisability of the origin is to encourage us to be our own person dealing with these urges and mystery of our origins, as opposed to being a definite pre-determined personality. I'm not against having multiple sources of temptation to be evil in a good playthrough though (tadpole, Bhaal-powers, etc.). If being good were easy, everyone would do it.

I am going to play an evil sorcerer who is on the hunt for ultimate power, whatever the cost. Dark Urge all the way, and there best be a good reason for an evil play through this time, unlike Larians previous games.

I agree completely with Zerubbabel that it has a vibe of response to current discussion. However, since that's the same outfit the speaker wore in her bits in PFH video, I reckon it's either (a) a bit that didn't make the final cut, or (b) a bit shot in the same interview intended to be dropped later as part of the information trickle. Or (c) all of the above. But the information keeps dropping in a trickle. Swen must feel like Willy Wonka, "the suspense is terrible, I hope it lasts," while the rest of us scramble over every crumb he offers, information-wise 🤣

Can't go wrong with:
Human Assassin or Assassin / Warrior multiclass ( RP Bhaal's maniac )
Wizard Necromancer
(Is there a Death domain?) War or Trickery Cleric of Bhaal / Bane / Myrkul / Lolth
Fiend Warlock
Personally I'd go for Fiend Warlock (perfect fit for "whispers in your head" character) or RP a serial killer Assassin.
