So i started playing EA again, leading up to the launch since im very hyped.
One of the major diffrences between Divinity OS2 and BG3 is immersion.
I love how the camera is closer and if zoomed its almost like a third person game.
With that being said zoomed in, character controlling with the mouse feels unnatural and clunky.
A toggle option for WASD controlling the character instead of the camera would imporve this alot and would even maybe help accesbility for people not that familiar with
CRPGs.
Its probably to late to implent the before launch, since the release is less then half a month away but maybe its an esay implementation.

Best regards : )

+1.
Or WASD and QE for camera, arrow keys for movement, and mouse for interacting. As someone with a trackpad, this lets me play the game seamlessly with two hands: one for camera, the other on arrows with my thumb on trackpad

This is definitely a suggestion that I've seen on the forum before and I agree that it would be great to more easily play the game with a sort of pseudo-over-the-shoulder view. I do try this sometimes, and it gives me a new appreciation for the detail in the world Larian have created.

Unfortunately, it doesn't look as though this is a feature we're getting for release.

You might already be aware, though it took me quite some time to realise, but in EA you can approximate it by clicking and holding the left mouse button to have your lead character constantly move towards the cursor. I find remapping some of the camera control helps as well. It's far from ideal as the click and hold is not very responsive and the fact left mouse click is also used to interact with the world interferes. Plus if you want to recentre the camera on your character you have to stop moving and double-click their portrait (I'd love it if Home did the same thing, but while it recentres the camera it also reorients and rezooms which is annoying). But still, better than nothing.

Exactly how I played DOS2. Click and hold all the way.

They are planning on adapting the game to console too if i remember correctly?

So we need to be able to move the characters with the stick or directional pad anyway...otherwise it would be moving the mouse arrow around, which is horrible imo. That would pretty much be the same as WASD implemention since you put a move direction on a button press.

I've mapped Q and E for camera rotation. I don't recall if that's the default, or if I just reversed them from the default, but it's worked really well for me

Yea, in DOS2 they had directional movment for controller implemented too.
But not for Keyboard and mouse, i fear it will be the same here.

Yea thats the way i play right now, holding the left mousebutton and i remapd the right one to turning the camera.
It works fine but imo true directional movment would be more engaging.

If they won't let us have directional movement with keyboard, I hope they let us use a controller for movement and camera, with a mouse+keyboard for interacting.

I suggested the same thing the week EA went live, why anyone would create a game like this that did not have mouse look is beyond me. W to move and the mouse to look up left, right control direction. I have grown accustomed to the controls now. The camera still irks me at times like trying to look up and target monsters who are shooting at me.

DRAGON FIRE-AND DOOM Dragons? Splendid things, lad-so long as ye look upon them only in tapestries, or in the masks worn at revels, or from about three realms off...

How so?

Well ofc the standard movement should not be removed. I would like to play with pad when i sit on the couch but at the PC there has to be the acutal mouse usuage :D---Also only implementing the movement is not enough...character and skill selection, targeting etc has to work too. Otherwise its just lacklustern anyway.

Well, thats easy ...
Especialy in Inquisition ... Dragon Age freely swaps between WASD being for control movement of your character (when camera is close) and only moving with camera (when its far) ...

Sadly for me, the confortable range of camera is right on the edge between those modes ...
So a little too often for my taste, the cam just jumped from one mod to another (i dont deny that sometimes it was my own fault, as i accidentaly hit rollmouse) ... then, when you need your character to move, but instead camera just fly away and let your character die alone ... its not a good experience. laugh

Thats why a toogle, nothing automatic would be the best option.

I'd prefer exploring in the OTS view with mouse look and a mouse button mapped for forward movement.

Dragon Age does this really well.
