I think you get out what you put in to getting to grips with the ruleset used by BG3.

It's true that you can pick up and start playing and have fun straight away, but I found that to get decent at the game took quite a bit of homework on my part. I'm sure this will vary from person to person, but I do think that more could be done to ease newbies into the game so they don't get frustrated when, eg, they find their hit chance is stubbornly low or their spells aren't doing much damage.
