Larian have said that they have added significantly more dialogue options tied to class and race. That seems to be the principal mechanism they're envisaging for helping us roleplay our Tavs in a more satisfying way, given by definition they don't have a fixed story. And origin characters are likely to often have their own specific responses to some challenges, so really taking full advantage of race/class reactivity might be something that's more unique to Tav.
Whether that will be fully satisfying, and whether it will be supplemented with potential additional links to the story and NPCs for Tavs of different races/classes (rather than just dialogue options) remains to be seen, but I do think that leaning into race and class, which are fundamental to D&D characters, makes sense as a way to preserve flexibility while giving options to connect our Tavs to the world.
Let's just hope Dwarfs are not left in the ditch in terms of those compared to other races. I know Duergar apparently can be quite reactive, but my RP will probably work better with more normal Dwarfs and I hope they are not suffering from lack of content due to not being writer's favorites.
